Every Newbie with a web site is told that posting free classified ads is a fundamental step to building traffic.

Yet things change quickly on the Internet, and what was once an Eternal Verity is now under serious assault.

THE BIGGEST CHANGE-EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN THE NUMBER OF SITES
Free classified ad sites are exploding in numbers. At the present rate of growth, we may soon see one site per seller! As a consequence most sites have little traffic, and most ad posters are seriously wasting their time.

AD BLASTING SOFTWARE HAS US BURIED IN ADS
Ad blasting software, allowing hundred of ads to be placed simultaneously, is fantastically multiplying the number of ads. Potential buyers at any of the sites receiving ad blasts are deluged in an avalanche, almost guaranteeing that your ad will be lost immediately in a sea of offerings.

(The one advantage to ad blasting: if you have enough ads out there, some of the search engines pick them up. This creates new links to your web site.)

WHERE ARE THE BUYERS?
Mike Kline editor of The Classified News (http://fp.ethergate.com/webs/tcn_asp.htm) reports that less than five percent of people going to ad sites are buyers.

But, says Mike, there are real buyers out there! Ironically, the buyers are the other sellers placing ads who stay to browse. [This only happens at sites that have actual visitors, not sites stuffed with ads from ad blasting software.]

THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT FREE SITES
There are good sites around, says Mike, but you need help to find them. That's why a publication like The Classified News is so valuable.

Mike has proved that the right sites work.  He has built his subscriber list mostly from carefully placed classified ads. In his publication, he lists the good sites weekly.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Read The Classified News and find out what sites are worth your time. Avoid wasting your time posting where you are NOT offered live links, or where there are not many ads. As Mike says, "Remember, posters are your primary prospects, not ad seekers (there really aren't any) and the number of ads on a site is directly related to their traffic."

Finally, be a little skeptical of the "advantages" of blasting your ad to hundreds of sites. The promised benefits of ad blasting, i.e. eliminating the drudgery of doing your own ads one at a time, has turned out to be "too good to be true."
