In the Dark

We hear it said that in order to be in business, you must have a Business Plan, and this is true. Without one, you are like a person in a dark room trying to find something.  Eventually, you may stumble across it, but how much time did you waste in the process?  If you had turned on the lights, the odds are you would have found it a lot faster.

The Internet provides a great number of opportunities that allow someone to get into business quickly, but many folks who try, are like that person stumbling about a dark room.  A good business plan requires that research is done on whether it will work prior to getting started.   Once a product or service is settled on, the next major step is to develop a marketing plan.

At the risk of oversimplification, a good marketing plan must get information about your product or services to those who are able and willing to buy them.  You will be competing with "droves" of others however, who are trying to accomplish the same goal, so the steps you take here will either make or break your business.

The first part of your marketing plan should be to identify your potential market.  Again, this sounds like a simple process. But it is amazing how many people don't.  A campaign aimed directly at your target market, will produce results.

Don't believe the ads you read about how mass email is the road to success.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  If someone receives a lot of junk email (spam) about a particular product or opportunity, it leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

If you are into Network Marketing or represent an Affiliate, what better place to advertise yours, than where they are trying to market theirs?   They have already made a decision about this being a viable field, and many are looking to diversify.  So here we have identified a potential target market.

Are there ezines or newsletters that go out to these people, or others who might be considering this? If so, this is a must. How about web sites that accept ads which are similarly targeted? You should definitely have representation there.

What about cost? There are thousands of places (FFA) where you can place a free web ad.  In fact, there is software that will post your ad automatically to them.  The majority of these however, only keep a limited number of ads up there.  When new ads come in, the older ones get rolled off.  Your ad there has a life, which is usually measured in seconds.  Hardly worth your time, not to mention the expense of the software. The real agenda here is that the FFA sites don't care if anyone sees your ad.

Their business is collecting targeted email addresses that they then market. If you don't believe this, place an ad in one, and watch the spam that arrives daily in your mail multiply faster than you thought possible.

While we're on this, how about the ezines that allow free ads. This is could be a further waste of time and effort. Yes, there is even software to place your free ad automatically to these, again by the thousands. Many of the people placing ads this way never even see the publication they submit to. Some require you to subscribe before accepting your free ad, and this helps build their subscriber base. There is however, little if any loyalty to the publication, and many times, the only reason they subscribe is to be able to place their ad.  If they bother to read it, they might make a cursory scan to ensure their ad is there, and then delete it.

So what should you do?  First, find a few ezines and web sites that accept paid ads, and most are relatively inexpensive. You can get your message out to thousands of potential customers this way. Don't think a "one time" ad however will work.  It can take 5 - 7 or so exposures to your ad before you can expect results.

One other mistake you should avoid is to assume that the larger the subscriber base of the publication, the better the results will be.  An ezine with only a few thousand targeted subscribers, many times will produce better results than some that have several hundred thousand that are not.

So, when planning a marketing campaign for your business, do a little research. Don't stumble around, hoping to find something that works.

Expected Damage From Kama Sutra Worm Doesn't Materialize

The latest high-profile worm making the rounds on the Internet has so far failed to unleash the damage that some had predicted. The Kama Sutra worm, also known as Nyxem.E, MyWife, and Blackworm, was scheduled to attack infected computers on Friday and begin deleting files and causing other headaches for users.

However, Paul Ducklin, head of technology at Sophos Asia-Pacific, said there have been no reports of problems so far. Ducklin attributed the lack of consequence to effective efforts by businesses to identify the worm and keep computers from becoming infected. Allan Bell, marketing director for McAfee, echoed Ducklin's remarks. "No local outbreaks reported," he said, "and very few reports of infections." F-Secure's Mikko Hypponen noted, however, that home users are typically much less aware of security threats and therefore much more widely affected by such worms.

"The full scope of the problem won't come to light until during the weekend or early next week," he said, when home users turn on their computers.

What Is True Prosperity?

When you live your life by the law of Prosperity, you can create all that you need. True prosperity starts within the mind and means more then just money. Ideas, dreams, wishes, thoughts, are all a part of your prosperity consciousness. So, whenever you focus your attention on a specific idea, wish or whatever, whether its positive or negative, it will become real.

Once you know that the power of the mind can attract whatever you focus on, amazing results can happen. If there is enough faith behind your request, there is enough power within you to make it happen. Know, too, that your natural association with a Higher Power is the true source of your prosperity. Having a spiritual belief is an important part of this source.

Prosperity is made up of many things and may include some of the following sources:

1. Good health and healthy living (and eating!)
2. Great relationships with family, spouse, friends, neighbors,       co-workers, associates
3. A fulfilling career
4. Continued mental and emotional growth
5. Satisfactory and worthy material possessions

During times when you feel happy and all is right in your world, you can actually create your own destiny. From those positive feelings, focus your thoughts on a definite purpose. From that you will experience true prosperity. Everyday make your purpose the central point in your thoughts. Keep thinking about your vision. This creates your attitude. Then your attitude will determine how much success and prosperity you’ll have in your life.

The way you look at the challenges you face everyday, and the way you react to them forms the way things are attracted to you. If you start your day in a negative mood, you can bet that negative things will happen to you. The opposite is also true. When you’re in a good mood, you attract positive experiences.

This too, holds true for money.  When you give, you get back much more. Though, at times you can see that the giving is unbalanced because you’re trading one value for another. Think about the moments when you gave away something of value to you. Was it given in a begrudging or angry manner, or with an expectancy of  getting something in return? When that happens, you pay a price. Instead, be conscious of your attitude and the way you give or the way you handle your money. Spend it and give it responsibly. Do it cheerfully. Become the kind of person who gives with kindness and prosperity will find you.

The path to true prosperity includes three steps:

1. Good Health
2. Happiness
3. Wealth

All three steps must exist before you can reach true prosperity. Before you can tap into the source that creates your prosperity, it may be necessary to experience the kind of challenges that shapes your character. Learn from your own mistakes and those of others. Be ready to become the kind of person it takes to be trusted and blessed with true prosperity.

You can always attract prosperity by thinking, speaking, and feeling in a certain way. Have you ever noticed how your money gets taken from you involuntarily when you don’t give it with a cheerful, loving attitude? It may not happen immediately, yet inevitably, unexpected expenses like your car breaking down, your child needing new dental work, or some household item having to be replaced, will come when you least expect them to, and when you can least afford them. So, as you give, let go of any guilt, self-pity, or ill-wishes toward others.

Remember: Prosperity wont happen if you hold on to resentment or revenge. Replace any negative feelings you may be holding and open your mind to receive outcomes that are extraordinary. With this attitude you can challenge the universe and create more outcomes that are good. And as your wisdom and character grows, so will your prosperity.

Bob – I was going to get the Stripmail program you listed in the newsletter to clean up email, forgive me for not knowing this, but when it asked if I want to run or save, which do I do and where do I save it if that is the answer?  I hit run and it comes up it is not from a website that is safe? so did not do it.  Hope you aren't laughing too hard at this point.  thanks for your help, love your letters.

Dede – I normally run something that changes frequently. If it doesn’t, I save it.  If the program is from a company that you do business with, odds are they will be around for awhile, and you don’t have to load up your computer with their installation program. If it is a one time download, I save it because if it becomes corrupted, (and I like it) the company may not be around in the future to download it again.

As far as the website not being safe, that is a judgment call on your part. That is not normally a problem if you are familiar with the site being downloaded from.  This program comes recommended and I downloaded it myself with no problems.
