Obscene Gasoline Prices
by Bob OsgoodbyI’m sure we are all shocked these days by the “price at the pump,” and rightfully so. Gasoline companies are making record profits and there seems little the average person can do about it. With a daily demand of 21 million gallons in the U.S. and the production of only 17 million, you can be sure they’re going to command top dollar.
In our economy, gasoline is a necessity, and not a frill we can choose to do without if it gets too expensive. What is worse is that the ripple effect of the increased price affects every other facet of our economy. Truckers, Airlines and Public Transportation feel the immediate effect. We all face the indirect effect of increased costs. Food and other products are more expensive because of the higher expense of delivery. Manufacturing expenditures are increasing because of the cost of the energy to make their products.
It seems the only thing that will bring the prices back down, is to reduce the demand – or is it? Suppose we all picked one gasoline company and didn’t buy from them – Exxon or Mobile for example. Do you think they would have to lower their prices to regain their market share? If they started to lower their prices to recapture their customers, might not the rest of the industry follow suit.
Have you ever noticed that in every shopping mall, there is what is referred to as an anchor store. This is normally a large store that attracts a lot of customers and the other stores in the mall benefit from the "spill over" customers that go there. But what happens if that anchor store falls into disfavor with the buying public? Not only do they go “belly-up”, but most of the other stores in that mall will suffer as well. Could Exxon or Mobile be compared to that anchor store?
Let’s face it, we’re all in business to make money – but at what cost? Is there a point where people will simply rebel? I think so. We all know that oil is a short term player in the field of energy today because there is not an unending supply. Countries such as France and Japan get 90% of their energy from nuclear sources. Why are we lagging so far behind in the United States and have such a high dependence on oil for our energy supply?
We could be energy independent in a few short years. Wind farms offshore and onshore, nuclear generating facilities, and increased use of our coal reserves could go a long way to reduce our dependence on oil. Hybrid cars and the increased use of alternative fuels such as ethanol could drastically reduce our dependence.
Alaskan oil and more offshore drilling in the Gulf could provide short term relief. But unfortunately, a vocal minority of environmentalists, are blocking these attempts, seemingly at every turn. The wind farms offshore might pose a danger to a few sea birds. Alaskan oil could cause some animals to relocate their migration paths. Nuclear generating plants might change the spawning habits of a few fish due to their warm water discharge.
I wonder how these self appointed guardians of our environment will react when they can’t afford to drive to work. If they can’t feed their families because of the high prices caused by the greed of the big oil companies, might that temper their judgment? With the instability in the Middle East, it is sheer insanity to ignore the local resources we have available.
In the view of many, our energy dependence is the greatest problem we face today. Is nuclear development in Iran our major worry today? I don’t think so. Face it – they won’t have to go to war with us or any other country. With the profits made from the artificially high cost per barrel of oil, they can simply wait a few years and buy the property in any country they wish.
I put gas in our car last evening and it cost over $62. What will happen when that same tank of gas costs over $100? A person making minimum wage and living in an area without public transportation simply won’t be able to afford to drive to work. What is their alternative?
We know that the price of gas can’t be regulated by the government. That experiment during the Jimmy Carter years proved a disaster with artificially created shortages and long lines at the pump.
We, the silent majority have to solve this problem. We have to become more vocal and let our elected officials know what we want. With the mid-term elections looming on the horizon, you can bet that they will listen. Why not go to the web site of your State and get the email addresses of your elected Officials and let them know what you think.
I live in New Jersey and the web site address of my state is: http://www.state.nj.us/ - yours is the same except substitute your state initials where “nj” is. If we all let them know that the “silent majority” is no longer silent, perhaps those “Obscene Gas Prices” will become a thing of the past.

Technology Director Charged With E-Rate Fraud
Federal charges have been brought against a technology director in South Carolina for defrauding the E-rate program, a federal program to fund technology improvements in disadvantaged schools.
Cynthia K. Ayer was indicted on 12 counts of mail and wire fraud for funneling contracts worth $3.5 million to her company, Go Between Communications. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Ayer's actions netted her more than $450,000 of E-rate funds. Ayer faces fines of $250,000 and a lengthy prison term if convicted. The E-rate program has been riddled with accounts of fraud and abuse, and Ayer's case is just the latest in a string of prosecutions against 11 individuals and 10 companies.
Thus far, settlements with some defendants have totaled $40 million in fines and restitution, and two individuals have been sentenced to prison terms.

A Journey to Riches

When you form your desires and dreams around a spiritual rule or spiritual value, that is, with strong faith and belief behind it, you tend to bring about that which is already on its way to you. It forms first out there in the universe as your idea, and is then manifested for real in your life. Can you see how your desires, dreams, and riches can come true? It works like magic!
Your journey to riches becomes closer each time you take a small step toward making it happen. Use your mind as the mechanism that propels you in the direction of your dreams. Find like-minded successful people, follow their lead and expect to become successful.
Never plant the seed of fear in anything you wish to accomplish. When the fear of success holds you back from seeking the riches you deserve, try developing a different mindset. A mind that is healthy, spiritually strong, and grateful is a remarkable force that will continuously guide you in the direction you are to go.
In order to reach your journey to riches, you must be aware of what you ask for and be prepared to accept what you receive. Holding this awareness and true belief in your mind is what creates riches. It must become your passion. Create your vision of where you wish to go and how you will get there. Then confirm the paths and actions you must take. When necessary, ask for the help you need and the tools to help you get there.
Develop your faith to a point where it is the only feeling that will sustain you on your journey. The more powerful it is, the faster your riches will come your way. Whenever you experience riches coming to you, find ways to give part of it to others. This keeps the riches in circulation and more coming back to you.
Your journey to riches also includes the following values:
1. Happiness - You must not put others wishes for you above the wishes you have for yourself. Your well-being is the only honorable way to live. It guarantees your survival and the ongoing relationship you have with others. Likewise, you must not make others sacrifice their happiness for yours. There must be a sense of balance in the give and take of your wishes and those of others.
2. A Desire - What are you passionate about? Follow that dream and youll be well on your way to your riches. Without a feeling of passion or desire for that which you wish to accomplish, it is nearly impossible for it to come true. And - your desire must have a productive purpose in your life. What is the purpose for that desire? Why do you wish it to come true? Otherwise, it would only be a pipe-dream, a fantasy or, an unreal goal. If its something that is nrealistic and beyond your reach, it may not happen.
3. A Reason - Examine your values. How are you running your life? Is what youre doing now serving your highest moral and spiritual purpose? Does it create happiness? Does your happiness, desire, and your reason provide you with a sense of well-being?
These are the emotions and values you must place uppermost in your mind. Learn what makes you happy and think of what it means to you to experience it. Then continue pursuing it to completion only if its for the good of yourself and others. These values are the reasons to seek riches or any other desire. Based on your judgment of is valuable to you, be clear on what you feel is your reason. Then live by those values.
On your journey to riches, do the best you are capable of doing. Strive to be healthy, happy, and giving. Do not be satisfied with anything less. When you have a desire to be more then you are, you are deserving of more and will become more. You will be moving toward a higher consciousness that will lead to your highest good. Go for it!

By Jan TincherDo you want to change? Some people don't realize the responsibility attached to that question.
Some don't realize YOU must take personal responsibility for your change. But that's the truth, because no one can do it for you. If they did, your change wouldn't be permanent.
In fact, any change you make will be temporary unless YOU take responsibility for your change. In my practice, I always ask "Are YOU ready to take responsibility for this change? Will YOU make it permanent? Will YOU implement it now?"
We have all created what we are experiencing. If we have created what we have, we can create what we want to have. Before that can happen, we have to know, feel, acknowledge that we MUST change, that we MUST change our circumstances, and that we CAN change it all.
