Holiday Spirit

With the coming of the holidays, many home based entrepreneurs are getting caught up in the spirit of the season.  Instead of approaching their business with the same vigor and vitality as usual, they have dropped their guard a bit and think they can coast through the end of the year. They might figure they've got to buy presents for family and friends, and funds will be a little short. After all they reason, everyone is doing this and December will be slow anyway.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Now is the time to double, and maybe even redouble your efforts! The people who feel they can renew their advertising efforts in January will miss this boat.

Your plan at this point should be to aggressively advertise your business. Think about it. Many people will be short of funds, or overextended due to the holiday gifting, and won't be standing in line during the next few weeks to take advantage of your opportunity. But, we all know it takes between 5 and 7 exposures to get someone's attention.  While the ads may not pay big dividends in December, you will be reinforcing your branding with your potential clients.

Take a lesson from the "brick and mortar" establishments.  They will be pounding us with their ads now more than ever, trying to get their share of our holiday shopping dollars.  And they will continue this until well in January realizing that some people have more expendable income after the holidays than before.

But, how about all those people getting first time computers? Don't forget that the Internet doesn't take a holiday.  There are thousands of prospects going online everyday.  If you relax now, you may be missing those prospects that you might otherwise get.

If you are in an affiliate program or in multi-level marketing, now is the ideal time to make yourself known. Many of these programs allow participation with little or no up front expenditure.  If yours is one, feature this in your ads.

The design of your ads is critical at this time of the year. The question you should pose is not "can you afford it now, but can you afford not to".

The concept of advertising is sometimes difficult for people to understand, especially by those involved for the first time. The most important time to advertise is when business is slow. The pre-holiday season will be slow if you market an online opportunity.  Now, many people will not realize this and curtail their activities.  The smart ones will and increase their ad expenditures.  They will get the "lion's share" of the business available.

Some people will receive money as a holiday gift, and now is the time to get their attention.  The winner of this race will be the first person they think of when the funds become available.

The number of first time PC users increases everyday. New two-way satellite services are emerging as a viable broadband alternative to cable modem and DSL service. The satellite is likely to appeal to consumers who want high-speed Internet access, but who either face long waits trying to obtain cable modem or DSL access, or live in a rural area where it is not available.

If you are in business on the web, or planning to do so, now just might be the time to take advantage of the lethargy that others will face.  While it "Tis the Season To Be Jolly", it is not the time to slow down or discontinue your marketing efforts.

Laptop Revenue to Surpass Desktops in 2007

A number of industry analysts believe that 2007 will be the year in which revenues from sales of laptops surpass those of desktop computers.

According to Richard Farmer, analyst with Merrill Lynch, the current revenue split for PC makers (47 percent desktops, 41.6 percent laptops) will change in 2007 to 45.6 percent laptops and 43.1 percent desktops. By 2008, estimates put revenues from laptops at nearly 50 percent, with desktops representing just 40 percent of revenues. Richard Shim, an analyst with IDC, agrees that revenues for laptops will continue to increase and will pass those from desktops, though he added that the number of desktops shipped will outpace the number of laptops until late 2008 or 2009.

One reason revenues are expected to change sooner than shipments is that laptops command higher prices than comparable desktops.

Test Your Emotions

1. What makes you laugh? Go deep within your heart and become aware of what makes you happy, peaceful, or content. Bring it forth and make yourself do it more often.

2. What gives you your inner strengths? Are you confident in most situations? Do you possess a positive attitude? Do you have a pleasing personality and are you easy to get along with? Testing yourself in this way gives you a glimpse of what makes you what you are.

3. Do you find yourself trying to escape from unpleasant situations? Ignoring the cause of an unpleasant problem does not make the problem go away. In order to be free of the problem, you must face it and find a solution. If the problem persists, you may need to seek outside help.

4. Would you say religion plays a part in your daily life? Are you able to rely on your faith to get you through difficult times? A certain amount of spirituality, no matter how small, may help you in difficult times. When dealing with unpleasant situations, it is consoling and also replenishes your inner strength.

5. How well do you express yourself? Do you always say what you mean, and mean what you say? When you can speak your mind clearly, leaving no room for misunderstandings, arguments, and hard feelings, it pays big dividends. Before voicing an opinion, make sure your facts are true and come from a source of certainty.

6. What are your dress habits like? Are you well dressed at all times? Is it professional or casual? With the gradual decline in professional dress and the move toward office casual, your wardrobe may not always express what is more socially acceptable. Casual dressing may work on a modest budget, however, in some offices a more professional look in certain cases, requires greater emphasis on spending. When selecting your wardrobe, try to dress with reasonable care.

7. Are you treated the way you would like to be treated? When you are having a bad day, do you display the way you actually feel? Usually when you feel depressed, stressed, and aggravated, it comes across in your actions, voice, and manner. These internal signals are contagious. They cause others around you to treat you in the same way. Notice the difference when you smile, speak in a pleasant voice, or are confident in the way you react to others. People tend to treat you with special care, or attentive approval, and the relationship is positive.

Continue to be aware of your inner emotions and how much more pleasant life becomes when you know that there is nothing outside of yourself that can make you happy. Live in a state of quiet confidence. Learn to receive direction from within and from the Source that gives you life. The strength that comes from knowing yourself gives you a choice to create a life that is positive and fulfilling.

After Christmas vacation, an elementary school teacher was asking her students how they celebrated Christmas.

When she got to Sammy, whose father ran a local toy store, she said, "Sammy, since you're Jewish, I guess your family didn't celebrate Christmas."

Sammy replied, "Oh yes, we did. We all held hands and danced around the cash register singing, “Happy Holidays”.

After driving up and down several lanes, I finally found a parking spot at the shopping mall. I noticed another man driving very slowly in the same direction, and, since he was closer, I gave him the "Are you going to park there?" look.

His responding gestures were very confusing. First he shook his head. Next he pointed at me, then at the parking space and then at himself, his watch and the mall. Finishing off, he frowned, raised his palms upward and shrugged. Once I parked, I walked over to the driver to make sure he didn't want the space.

"You must be single," he replied. "If you were married, you would've known that was the universal sign for 'Go ahead and take the spot. I'm waiting for my wife.'"
