Ads Which Draw

The object of Internet Ads is really not to make an immediate sale, but to get someone to do something - usually request more particulars by email, or go to a web site for further information.  This is where many ad programs fall apart.

If you are trying to make sales from your web site, there must be some continuity between the ad that got them there, and the web page they find. Once in a while an ad will get my attention, when I go to their web site, the information I was looking for, can’t be found.  Trying to fight my way through a dozen or so links that have nothing to do with what I'm looking for, I quickly click away.

A smart entrepreneur will make their ad and the web page complementary to each other.  If someone visits your site, they should immediately find what brought them there in the first place.  They shouldn't have to search all over the place as they will quickly lose interest.  Remember that people came there to get information, and not spend a lot of time trying to find it.

Most people who buy on the web are not idiots.  Just because your ad is on the web doesn't give it any magic.  If your product is overpriced, you will not do a whole lot of business.

Someone recently told me that trying to run a web business was a waste of time.  Investigation into what he was trying to do, quickly revealed he was selling a product for $49.95, that was available in local stores for $19.95.  In this case, he was right.  You should really not try to compete with a large company or a "brick and mortar" business.  The pockets that contain their advertising dollars are a lot deeper than yours.

But the Internet is a fantastic opportunity for the small entrepreneur.  You just don't want to try and compete with "Walmart" in the process.  Some people are making money every single day however, so what is their secret?  They have found a "niche" not normally available in the chains, and are capitalizing on that.

There are thousands of "niche markets" around.  Take a look and see what others are doing.  One good example I have found is someone who has extended his "brick and mortar" business to the Internet.  He runs a specialty carpet store, and decided to go online as well. His web site is complementary to his ads, and the user can quickly find what they are looking for.

Do you have to have a "brick and mortar" business to succeed? No, in point of fact, the majority of people in business on the web do not.  In his case, it is an extension of his regular business, that happens to work well.  Many people however, do not have a "brick and mortar" business, and operate solely on the web.

Do you have a hobby that could be turned into a business.  I know a person who collects stamps.  His hobby has turned into an active business.  Another person who is an avid gardener, has started marketing her own herbal remedies.  Yet another is an author who writes copy for other web based businesses.

Time and space prohibit trying to list every opportunity that one can pursue. What might be of interest to one person, may not be to another.  Everyone is different with different interests and backgrounds. If you can find your proper "niche market", develop some ads which draw and have a complementary web site, you will succeed.

In The News

Winter Storms

Another storm carrying the threat of more snow and ice moved across the Southern Plains on Friday as more than 100,000 homes and businesses still remained in the dark from earlier blasts of cold, wet weather.  Winter storm warnings covered much of New Mexico and parts of Texas and Oklahoma, with a half-foot to more than a foot of snow and sleet expected. In Texas, 90 National Guard members were activated.

Elsewhere, in parts of the country not affected by the weather, merchants are finding it difficult to obtain goods normally gotten from these western states. The goods may not even originate in these states, but the truckers are finding it difficult to maintain any kind of schedule if they have to pass through them on route to the market.

Meanwhile, the citrus crop in California has been 75% destroyed by freezing weather. Expect a price hike for these products.

Which Of These 7 Mistakes Are You Making In M-L-M?...

You've done it. You've signed up with a network-marketing company. You're ready to get started with your teams advertising system. You're ready, set, go. All the ads hit, you're excited. Like a kid who can't wait to go to Disney World, you wait for the responses to pour in.

After 2-3 days... Nothing.

Why didn't anyone respond?

Don't worry. You're not alone. Matter of fact, this is a common scenario in M-L-M. People get jazzed, sign up with their uplines co-op, fire off a few hundred emails, get the postcards, and nothing comes of it.

Marketing experts they are not. You, of course, are smarter than that, which is why you're reading this special report right now. You want to know the top 7 mistakes people make in M-L-M, and you want to know the solutions to them.

Here they are:

Using "Institutional Advertising"

Institutional advertising is advertising that does not focus on your prospects. Rather on you, your company, your pay plan, your products, your bonus pool, your packaging, or the sales people at the home office. Anything that does not focus solely on your prospect is institutional advertising. Think of Coke-A-Cola. That's institutional advertising. Their sole purpose is brand their name into your mind. That way when you get thirsty and want a soda, you buy a Coke.

You must focus on your prospects ego and their desires. What they want takes priority over what you or the M-L-M company you're with wants. Tell them what's in it for them.

Solution: Create prospect focused advertising and drop your ego and appeal to the prospects ego.

Fell Into Management Mode

This one is a biggy. In order to make money in network marketing (or in direct selling) the life blood is new business. For the first 2-3 years new business is what drives your income. If you spend all of your time managing people and none of it actually acquiring new business you'll fall into a mode where your income levels off or just drops. This is management mode and it will stop you dead in your tracks from making long term income from M-L-M.

Solution: Always be moving forward, building your group. Leading by example. By building.

Making M-L-M Your Business

One of the most sobering and completely real facts of M-L-M is that you do not own your own M-L-M business. At any moment in time the network marketing company you're with could shut it's doors, change it's policies, cut the popular products (not likely, but happens) or any number of things that would instantly stop your income or cut it by 50%.

Making M-L-M your business limits you. Stops you from seeing all of the possibilities outside the M-L-M industry. Instantly turning your income into something that is in reality, not yours. Make M-L-M a part of your business. Not the sole reason it exists.

Solution: Expand your business into other areas. Not just M-L-M.

Not Being Personal

M-L-M takes time, money, more time and more money to develop. As does any profitable business. However, in the day of emails, fax machines, web sites, online video, and super technology, it is easier than ever to forget you are working with real live people with real live problems and worries. Adding a personal touch to the process will build your credibility, and build trust with those you plan on working with.

Solution: Add a personal touch and build trust

Not Being Realistic

Technology makes it easier for you to contact more and more people at an ever growing rate. Which leads some people to hype up their claims. Hyped up claims are not always so outrageous they instantly appear full of hype. Some of them are subtle, like, "No direct selling." Which seems like a benefit, because people hate to sell. In truth, direct selling is network marketing. You are not as aggressive about it. But you will, and always be selling something to someone.

Solution: Be Realistic and understand network marketing is a selling business.

Losing Focus

Losing focus is easy. Thousands of ways to advertise and reach your market exist. Pick 1 or 2 or 3 of them. Not all of them. Focus on what works, and drop what doesn't. If you know it's not working after a few weeks, don't do it anymore. Truly effective advertising works in just a short time. Not 3 years. Save yourself time and money and find an alternate way to reach your market once the way you're using proves itself to be ineffective.

Solution: Focus only on one, two or three advertising strategies at time. And focus on them until they prove to be ineffective.

Becoming a Computer Jockey

A Computer Jockey? What's that? Computer Jockey’s are people who sit there in front of their computer and try to work their M-L-M business completely online. 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This is just insanity. While the world wide web does offer more affordable ways to reach your market. It isn't the only game in town and placing print ads and sending sales letters to people offline is not only effective, but sometimes more effective.

Solution: Try advertising offline as well to expand your reach.

But We Tried Everything!

Occasionally I meet a business that has done a TON of marketing but still isn’t selling much. It isn’t that they haven’t tried. The list of marketing they attempted can be staggering.

If thousands and millions of prospects are learning about the product or service, why aren’t any of them buying?

Here are some common reasons even well-promoted products don’t sell.

There isn’t any real market for the product. It may seem like a great idea, but nobody wants it--at least, not yet.

Customers don’t think your business is qualified to sell the product. One man knew his medium-sized business could supply the needs of major customers, but they didn’t buy until his company grew into a big corporation. “We could have served them just as well before, but they wouldn’t buy because they thought we weren’t big enough.”

Your advertising isn’t targeted to the right market. This is probably the most common problem. A company markets with a media that reaches a mass audience (like TV or daily newspapers) but reaches too few of their customers who belong to a specific group.

Tightly targeted media don’t always reach the audience they claim to reach. Try running a test first to see if you get results before spending big bucks.

A judge, bored and frustrated by a lawyer's tedious arguments, had made numerous rulings to speed the trial along. The lawyer had bristled at the judge's orders, and both their tempers grew hot.

Finally, frustrated with another repetition of arguments he had heard many times before, the judge pointed to his ear and said, "Counselor, you should be aware that at this point, what you are saying is just going in one ear and out the other."

"Your honor," replied the lawyer, "That goes without saying. What is there to prevent it?"

My job as a land surveyor took me to a golf course that was expanding from 9 holes to 18 holes.

Using a machete to clear thick brush in an area I was mapping, I came upon a golf club that an irate player must have tossed away. It was in good condition, so I picked it up and continued on.

When I broke out of the brush onto a putting green, two golfers stared at me in awe. I had a machete in one hand, a golf club in the other, and behind me was a clear-cut swath leading out of the woods.

"There," said one of the golfers, "is a guy who hates to lose his ball!"

A man went on a ski trip, and was knocked unconscious by the chair lift. He called his insurance company from the hospital, but it refused to cover his injury.

"Why is the injury not covered?" he asked.

"You got hit in the head by a chair lift," the insurance rep said. "That makes you an idiot, and we consider that a pre-existing condition."

One day, three men were hiking and unexpectedly came upon a large raging, violent river. They needed to get to the other side, but had no idea of how to do so.

The first man prayed saying, "Please God, give me the strength to cross this river." Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs, and he was able to swim across the river in about two hours, after almost drowning a couple of times.

Seeing this, the second man prayed to God, saying, "Please God, give me the strength...and the tools to cross this river." Poof! God gave him a rowboat and he was able to row across the river in about an hour, after almost capsizing the boat twice.

The third man had seen how this worked out for the other two, so he also prayed saying, "Please God, give me the strength and the tools ... and the intelligence ... to cross this river." And poof! God turned him into a woman. She looked at the map, hiked upstream a couple of hundred yards, then walked across the bridge.
