Tip of the Day
"Windows" Key
I know we have covered this in the past, but I continue to get a lot of questions about it. The key with the WINDOWS Logo, is probably the most neglected key on your keyboard, but it can be one of the handiest.
Used by itself, it will open your START menu.
WINDOWS + D will minimize all open windows. Hit the same combination again and it will restore the open applications.
WINDOWS + E opens Windows Explorer.
WINDOWS + F searches for a file or folder.
WINDOWS + R will launch your RUN dialog box.
WINDOWS + TAB changes the focus to other programs open on your task bar.

First Around-The-World Telegram Sent
On this day in 1911, a dispatcher in the New York Times office sends the first telegram around the world via commercial service
The Times decided to send its 1911 telegram in order to determine how fast a commercial message could be sent around the world by telegraph cable. The message, reading simply "This message sent around the world," left the dispatch room on the 17th floor of the Times building in New York at 7 p.m. on August 20.
After it traveled more than 28,000 miles, being relayed by 16 different operators, through San Francisco, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Saigon, Singapore, Bombay, Malta, Lisbon and the Azores--among other locations--the reply was received by the same operator 16.5 minutes later. It was the fastest time achieved by a commercial cablegram since the opening of the Pacific cable in 1900 by the Commercial Cable Company.
Trivia
Thomas Edison tried two thousand different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his assistant complained, "All our work is in vain. We have learned nothing." Edison replied very confidently, "Oh, we have come a long way and we have learned a lot. We now know that there are at least two thousand elements that cannot be used to make a good light bulb."

At the beginning of the Tip of the Day, among the dates we list, are the number of days until Christmas. Before Jesus, there were other savior figures whose myths inspired entire religions. The legends of these pagan "savior gods" (such as Attis, Mithras, Horus and Osiris) were clearly in circulation long before Jesus is said to have lived.
It is said that Mithra was born on the 25th of December. If you choose to celebrate his birthday on the same day as Christmas, that of course is your prerogative. Do you exchange presents?
Women in Business
Avoid the home based business scams and find a legitimate home business!
By Michele MillerNowadays, there are so many scams around! People who take advantage of innocent people since they know so many of us want to work from home.
Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! But, you need to know more than that if you are to truly avoid getting ripped off.
I think it's good advice to give when I say, AVOID anything that talks about stuffing envelopes, pyramid schemes, and people that say you can make $2,512.16 cents working in your pajamas in the next 24 hours etc. Yes, you've heard about these golden opportunities before, I'm sure. Now there may be some legitimate stuffing envelope opps out there, but most are just a way to get your money and give you a list of companies that might pay you to stuff envelopes, but they don't give you the actual opportunity! Usually the information you're given is to place the same type of ad yourself.
Don't pay for lists of companies that provide work at home. If somebody needs an employee, it's up to them to advertise where people can find the opportunity, and not where people have to pay to see the opportunity. These lists are usually a list of companies straight from your phone book and these companies have no idea they are even on a list that has been sold to you!
If anybody tries to pressure you into joining a multi-level marketing company, take the time to think about it and make sure it is a reputable business opportunity that you even want to consider joining. Don't let yourself be pressured into anything. A lot of these are legitimate, but some are not.
Ask for references, testimonials etc. Check there have been no complaints against the company by checking with the Better Business Bureau etc. Most larger businesses do belong to this association. Also, check with the National Fraud Information Center http://www.fraud.org You can also check http://www.groups.google.com and see from the newsgroup postings if anybody has reported a scam.
The US Chamber of Commerce now apparently has more members than any other small business association. This can be an important resource when it comes to your business. They offer members all kinds of advice about starting and maintaining a business, and even have workshops you can go to. They also help their members get discounts on various products and services, from office supplies to health insurance.
Look around your area for other small business associations before joining the Chamber of Commerce. There may be other associations better suited to your needs.
The SBA (Small Business Association) has been around since 1953. http://www.sba.gov/ They have helped provide many small companies with business loans and other professional advice. Definitely worth checking out their website.
http://www.score.org/findscore/ This is an outstanding association. The SCORE Association is a national nonprofit organization. SCORE’s 10,500 volunteers provide small business counseling and training through a network of 389 chapters, 800 branches and its Web site is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
There are legitimate work at home opportunities available, but you must do diligent research before succumbing to any of them, especially the ones that seem too good to be true.

Little Humor to Start the WeekLate to work
=-=-=-=-=-=-=Tom had this problem of getting up late in the morning and was always late for work. His boss was mad at him and threatened to fire him if he didn't do something about it.
So Tom went to his doctor who gave him a pill and told him to take it before he went to bed.
Tom slept well and in fact beat the alarm in the morning by almost two hours. He had a leisurely breakfast and drove cheerfully to work.
"Boss", he said, " The pill actually worked!"
"That's all fine" said the boss, "But where were you yesterday?"

Two boys were arguing when the teacher entered the room. The teacher asked, "Why are you arguing?"
One boy answered, "We found a ten-dollar bill and decided to give it to whoever tells the biggest lie."
"You should be ashamed of yourselves," said the teacher. "When I was your age, I didn't even know what a lie was."
The boys gave him the ten dollars.

On a business trip to India, I arrived at the airport in Delhi and took a taxi to my hotel, where I was greeted by my hospitable Indian host.
The cab driver requested the equivalent of eight dollars U.S. for the fare. It seemed reasonable, so I started to hand him the money. But my host grabbed the bills and initiated a verbal assault upon the cabby, calling him a worthless parasite and a disgrace to their country for trying to overcharge visitors. My host threw half the amount at the driver and told him never to return. As the taxi sped off, my host gave me the remaining bills and asked, "How was your trip?"
"Fine ... until you chased the cab away with my luggage in the trunk."

What am I?
My whole is diligent. Remove my third and it is finished. Remove its second and it's a furrow. Remove its second and it describes this puzzle to those who cannot solve it.
