Look Younger, Feel Younger
Mangosteen juice, the category creator, whole food fruit juice supplement marketed by Xango has helped me to be able to lie gracefully about my age. Strangers are agog when they hear I am 74 years young. It didn't happen over night but it happened. See my profile for a current picture. Interested?
Visit www.mymangosteen.com/fredabd and "catch the vision". After you've caught the vision call me at the toll-free number at the upper right corner, leave your info and I'll get back within 24 hours.

Tip of the Day
Wireless Hub
A hub is a device you can use with your computer to hook up other devices that you may use (such as a keyboard, a mouse, a digital camera, a printer, etc). The most common form of a hub is in a USB format. You simply plug the hub into one of your USB ports and the rest of the devices can then be connected to that in order for them to work.
So, what about a wireless hub? Is there such a thing? There sure is and it's very convenient! If you have a wireless network set up in your home or office, you can use a wireless hub to connect all the other devices you need to use. A wireless hub is the perfect way to link everything together with all the computers you use within your network. Along with being inexpensive, wireless hubs are also very easy to set up and configure, so that's always a plus!
The only thing you can't share on a wireless hub is an Internet connection. This comes as a confusion to several people. Even though you have a hub set up on your wireless network, only one computer can access the Internet. If you wanted to share the Internet connection, you would have to purchase a router.

Today's Highlight in History
The Guillotine Falls Silent
At Baumetes Prison in Marseille, France, Hamida Djandoubi, a Tunisian immigrant convicted of murder, became the last person executed by guillotine.
The guillotine first gained fame during the French Revolution when physician and revolutionary Joseph-Ignace Guillotin won passage of a law requiring all death sentences to be carried out by "means of a machine." Decapitating machines had been used earlier in Ireland and England, and Guillotin and his supporters viewed these devices as more humane than other execution techniques, such as hanging or firing squad. A French decapitating machine was built and tested on cadavers, and on April 25, 1792, a highwayman became the first person in Revolutionary France to be executed by this method.
The device soon became known as the "guillotine" after its advocate, and more than 10,000 people lost their heads by guillotine during the Revolution, including Louis XVI and Mary Antoinette, the former king and queen of France.
Use of the guillotine continued in France in the 19th and 20th centuries, and the last execution by guillotine occurred in 1977. In September 1981, France outlawed capital punishment altogether, thus abandoning the guillotine forever. There is a museum dedicated to the guillotine in Liden, Sweden.
Trivia
Norwegian Roald Amundsen led the first group to reach the South Pole. Although his expedition set out before Amundsen's, Robert Falcon Scott and his men reached the South Pole a month later. Tragically, Scott and his men froze to death only a few miles from safety on the trip back. Had they jettisoned the heavy load of scientific samples collected on their journey, they might have reached shelter before being struck by the bad
weather which stranded them.

Women in Business
Catering to Beginners, Enthusiasts and Geeks
by Marcia YudkinRecently I had occasion to review several dozen Web sites in one industry -- camera stores. I found this eye-opening, as an unfortunate pattern emerged that I believe holds not only on the Internet but also in paper-based marketing materials, and applies to many professions. First, some background.
Most of us, particularly those who regularly deal with a wide swath of the public, know how to adjust our conversation according to the experience level of our audience. If someone asks to see a particular camera, a retailer explains it differently depending on whether the person seems to know as much as he about cameras or next to nothing. An oncologist explains the same case of cancer differently to the patient than to the patient's doctor.
On paper and on the Web, however, we tend to orient our promotional material to just one kind of audience and only one level of sophistication. If we do this strategically, great. If we make a conscious choice to target one audience rather than another because the former accounts for higher profits, terrific. But that's not what I saw at the camera store sites.
For beginners, people who don't know much about a product or service, it's a huge mistake to lead with detailed product information. Too much "APS 505 AiAF f/2.8 2x" overwhelms when I'm wondering whether a digital, 35mm or disposable point-and-shoot camera would fit my needs.
Beginners need helpful guidance that takes their goal as the starting point. Questions and answers and products recommended for specific purposes may work best for this audience so long as the descriptions use laypersons' vocabulary.
Enthusiasts, people who love spending money on their hobby, respond well when invited to adventure farther or deeper and meet new challenges in pursuit of their favorite pastime. Activities such as clinics and outings for wildlife photography, sports shots or photojournalism capture the imagination of this group -- and get them to spend more money. Since this segment loves exchanging tips and sharing their passion, an online discussion group and an email newsletter containing picture-taking techniques would earn their devotion to a Web site.
Finally we get to the geeks, the experts, the pros, who usually have a rough idea of what they want and might be narrowing down the field to one or two models or manufacturers. They're the ones that all that "APS 505 AiAF f/2.8 2x" speaks to. I doubt very much they represent the majority of camera buyers, or that they bring a merchant the greatest profit, since they're probably skilled comparison shoppers. Nearly all the sites I looked at mainly appealed to geeks. And I think this was unintentional, due to the camera store owners belonging to this category themselves.
Don't pick out one audience only unless that's your strategic choice. By combining approaches on your Web site, or on a brochure or sales sheet, you can lasso all levels of customers -- beginners, enthusiasts and geeks.

Little Humor to Start the WeekMovie Meet
=-=-=-=-=-=-=After I had purchased movie tickets for myself and my girlfriend, she went inside to find seats while I got some popcorn. By the time I was served, the previews were already being shown. I stumbled my way through the dark, sat down, put the popcorn in my girlfriend's lap and gave her knee an affectionate squeeze.
Then I heard a familiar voice say, "Pssst! John! I'm back here."

Kyle and Justin were about to eat with the baby sitter when 6-year-old Kyle said, "You can't sit in Daddy's seat!"
"Daddy's not home," the baby sitter replied. "Since I'm responsible for you while he's gone, I can sit here. Today I'm the boss."
Justin, the 4 year old, quickly piped up, "If you're the boss, you sit need to sit over there in Mommy's chair!"

A wealthy woman is giving a garden party, and several well-to-do guests attend. During the festivities, two gardeners are out on the back lawn working. One of the guests was watching the gardeners gardening, and while one gardener was busy weeding the other leaped up, spun about, and gracefully swirled, seeming to dance movements.
Taken by his grace, the guest remarked to the host, "That man is such a talented dancer, I'd pay him a hundred dollars to demonstrate his dancing before my aerobics class!"
When the host asked the first gardener about such an arrangement, he yelled, "Hey Louie! Do you think for a hundred dollars you could step on that rake again?'
