APE Files
An .ape file goes along with an audio compressor called Monkey's Audio. Ape files are not as common as MP3 files, but it is a file type that is associated with audio and video streams. If one of your songs or videos happens to come in an .ape format, chances are, you will have to reformat it so it will actually work for you. For example, if you want to play an .ape file on your MP3 player, you'll have to convert it to an .mp3 file and so on.
All of that is true unless you're using the Monkey's Audio program. This is a audio compressor that is known for its efficiency and good sound. This program works by making bit for bit copies of music or video, which makes them sound more like the original. It's a rather easy way to compress digital files. If you're able to use it and make it work for you, it's a good alternative to other file formats when dealing with your music.
Give it a shot, you never know what the monkey (or ape) can do for you! You can download this at: http://www.monkeysaudio.com/

Today's Highlight in History
Martin and Lewis debut on The Colgate Comedy Hour
On this date in 1950, Comedians Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis made their first appearance as hosts of a new TV variety show, The Colgate Comedy Hour.
Martin and Lewis first teamed up in 1946. Martin, born in Steubenville, Ohio, in 1917, had started a nightclub act after working as a prizefighter and a steelworker in the 1940s. Lewis, the son of performers, debuted in comedy acts with his parents at age five and was working steadily as a comic by 1946, when he met Martin. The pair performed an act in which screwball Lewis constantly interrupted straight man Martin's singing. They made their first appearance at a club in Atlantic City and were an instant hit, soon in demand for radio and movie performances. They made their first movie together, My Friend Irma, in 1949. The following year, they were chosen, along with Eddie Cantor and Fred Allen, to share the host position for The Colgate Comedy Hour. The show ran until 1955, a year before Martin and Lewis split up.
After the duo parted ways, Martin launched his own TV variety show, which ran from 1965 to 1974. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Martin teamed up with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop to perform in Las Vegas. The group quickly became known as the Rat Pack, a suave group of young, fast-living entertainers. The group made several movies together in the early 1960s, including Ocean's Eleven (1960), Sergeants Three (1962), and Robin and the Seven Hoods. Dean Martin died in 1995.
Jerry Lewis went on to sign one of the most lucrative film contracts of the day, a $10 million deal for 14 films with Paramount. Lewis' films, including Cinderfella (1960) and The Nutty Professor (1963), failed to attract much praise from American critics but made him a star in France, where he has long been considered a comic genius. After a long absence from film, he gave an acclaimed performance in the 1986 film The King of Comedy, co-starring Robert De Niro.

Trivia
Several poison-dart frog species are bred at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. There, researchers gauge the toxicity of poisonous species by taste. No danger is posed, because frogs caught in the wild gradually become less poisonous, and captive offspring are nontoxic. The change may be due to diet. The frog's natural menu — mostly tropical ants and springtails — cannot be duplicated in a terrarium.

Don't Let Them Overwhelm You With Data By Helen Wilkie
It's becoming more and more difficult to sift the nuggets of true knowledge from the mountains of data thrown at us from all directions. Of course, we do this to ourselves to a certain extent, because in this age of unlimited access to information through the Internet as well as all the traditional sources, most of us try to take in just too much. No wonder we feel overwhelmed.
But if you are an executive or manager, there's one way you can cut down on this data dump: stop the flow you get from your own people in the form of e-mail messages, memos, reports and presentations.
I'm not suggesting you refuse to accept any information from your people, but honestly, haven't you ever received a half-inch-thick written report when you only wanted the salient facts or the main figures?
Have you ever sat through a monthly financial presentation in which your people stood in front of a slide covered in figures, turned around and read them out, and then --- just in case you missed anything --- gave you a copy of the slide as a handout? The message of these presentations generally is, "Here's what the budget said we would do, here's what we actually did, so here's the shortfall or surplus."
Just think of all the time this took, both for the people who labored mightily to put it together (sweating bullets as they did because they dread the presentation to much), and also for you to listen to it. And did it really help you? Or did it simply add more data to the dump?
Fixing this universal problem not only saves companies money, but it also has the potential to cut down on workplace stress at all levels. But it won't fix itself. If you don't speak up, you'll listen to these presentations and read those long-winded reports every month till the end of your career!

Little Humor to Start the WeekHelp Is On The Way
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=My friend was on duty in the main computer lab on a quiet afternoon. He noticed a young woman sitting in front of one of the computer workstations with her arms crossed across her chest and staring at the screen. After about 15 minutes he noticed that she was still in the same position only now she was impatiently tapping her foot.
He asked if she needed help and she replied, "It's about time! I pushed the F1 button over twenty minutes ago!"

I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me, and always she was correct. But it was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door and said, "Grandpa, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!"

A photographer for a national magazine was assigned to take pictures of a great forest fire. He was advised that a small plane would be waiting to fly him over the fire.
The photographer arrived at the airstrip just an hour before sundown. Sure enough, a small Cessna airplane was waiting. He jumped in with his equipment and shouted, "Let's go!" The tense man sitting in the pilot's seat swung the plane into the wind and soon they were in the air, though flying erratically.
"Fly over the north side of the fire," said the photographer, "and make several low-level passes." "Why?" asked the nervous pilot. "Because I'm going to take pictures!" yelled the photographer. "I'm a photographer, and photographers take pictures."
After a long pause, the "pilot" replied: "You mean, you're not my instructor?"

How can it be?
A horse travels a certain distance each day. Strangely enough, two of its legs travel 30 miles each day and the other two legs travel nearly 31 miles. It would seem that two of the horse's legs must be one mile ahead of the other two legs, but of course this can't be true. Since the horse is normal, how is this situation possible?
Do you know the answer? Scroll down for the solution.

"Cooking for the Empty Nest"
Recipe of the Week
by Susan KempChicken Barbeque Sauce
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (I use Kraft chargrill)
1/4 cup orange juice
2 TBSP fresh lemon juice (bottled just doesn't taste the same)
2 TBSP brown sugar
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke (or to taste)
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. soy sauce (or to taste)
Tabasco Sauce to taste (don't omit - even if you only use a few drops)In small nonreactive sauce pan mix all ingredients and slowly bring to a boil stirring often. Reduce heat and simmer gently for 5 to 10 minutes. Grill chicken as usual. Baste with sauce during the last 15 minutes of cooking. Baste chicken over low heat to prevent sauce from burning. Boil extra sauce (or make extra) and serve with chicken for dipping.
