Change Your XP Sounds
Are you are getting tired of hearing the same old sounds that Windows XP makes when it's going through its routine tasks (or non-routine tasks, for that matter?!) If you are, did you know that you can easily change the sounds to something more pleasing to you and your ears?
Now, I'm talking about sounds that accompany events and tasks, such as when Windows XP starts up, displays an error message, receives an e-mail or an instant message, connects to a wireless network and dozens others. All of them can be changed. You can even change the sounds to something that is already loaded on your computer or you can search the Web and download any sound that appeals to you. We will talk about both in this tutorial, so let's get started!
1.) Click Start and then Control Panel.
2.) Click Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices.
3.) Next, click Change the Sound Scheme.
The Sounds and Audio Devices Properties box appears. You should be at the Sounds tab, but if not, go ahead and click on it.
Note: In the Program events box, you can listen to the sounds Windows XP has already associated with each task and event. Click on the Program event you would like to listen to. Then, click the right arrow button near the Browse button.
4.) To browse through the preloaded Windows XP available sounds, click the down arrow button on the Sounds box. You can listen to each of these preloaded sounds by clicking the right arrow button to the left of the Browse button. Many of these sounds should sound very familiar.
5.) To change the sound assigned to a particular event, click on the Program event you want to change in the Program events box and highlight the sound that you want it to be changed to in the Sounds box. If you only want to change one sound, click on Apply in the lower right corner of the dialogue box.
Today's Highlight in History
Jerry Seigel, creator of Superman
Jerry Seigel, creator of Superman, died at age 81 on this day in 1996. Seigel, a writer, created Superman with artist friend Joe Shuster when they were both teenagers in the 1930s. All the major newspaper syndicates rejected the character, who was born on the doomed planet Krypton and bundled off by his parents in a space capsule to Smallville USA, where he's raised by kindly earthlings. In 1938, however, Seigel and Shuster finally landed a comic book deal, and Superman's adventures as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent moonlighting as the Man of Steel became an instant hit. The comic book spawned a newspaper strip that ran for 28 years, as well as a radio series that ran from 1940 to 1951.
The character, along with his friends cub reporter Jimmy Olson and ace newswoman Lois Lane, who never seem to penetrate Superman's Clark Kent disguise, appeared in movie serials from 1948 to 1950, and in a feature film in 1951. A popular Superman TV series ran from 1951 to 1957. Filmed on a shoestring budget, the show's special effects were limited to Superman crashing through walls, flying around, and witnessing fiery explosions. The same flying sequences were used repeatedly. Actor George Reeves was so well-known as Superman that he couldn't find other work when the series ended.
The Man of Steel reappeared on the big screen in 1978, with Christopher Reeves in the role. The hit film launched three follow-ups. In 1993, Superman appeared again in the TV comedy Lois and Clark.

Woman in Business
Caution Required by Sara Hardy
Being active users of the internet, we all come across so many tempting business offers. Most of us would love to be able to quit our mundane job that takes all of our time and energy. Most of us think "I know there is a way to make money on the computer, and some day I will sit down and figure it out."
Every time an advertisement or website catches your interest, you can not help but wonder if it could actually work, and then you could work from home and spend more time with your family. There is nothing wrong with that! Sometimes change is good, or sometimes you just have to take that chance. But since there is so much riding on any decision you may make, especially money, shouldn't you step back and take a second look?
First off, and very important, never ever take an ad for what it says. There are no guarantees that advertisers tell the truth. They want to sell to you, and they will tell you whatever it is that you want to hear to get you interested. Now, there are many legitimate businesses that will not steer you wrong. But, please do not take them for face value. Don't jump in with both feet without taking the time to investigate.
I have always felt that MarketingTrendz.com has done a good job in trying to educate our readers as far as dealings on the internet. But the fact is, most of the people I hear from have all learned the hard way about the offers they find on the internet. My thinking in sitting down to write this warning to you is- Do you need to burn your hand to know that fire is hot? Can we not learn from other real experiences and save ourselves from a lot of trouble?
There are many ways to verify that a person or business is what they claim to be and believe me (and everyone who has gone through this) it is worth the extra time and research to protect yourself. Below are some web addresses that I personally find useful and have book marked for my easy access.
- Check the website registration. http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois Do this with all domains you are interested in buying from. Of course, they need their OWN domain for this to work.
- Verify names, addresses and phone numbers. http://www.infospace.com/ Not everyone comes up in these directories, but it only takes a few seconds and can make you feel more sure.
- Look for a membership to an association for protecting consumers. There are solid guidelines that members must follow. Remember: Also look for their listing in the association's directory. That way you know they haven't just stolen a graphic and are pretending to be a member.
- Stay up-to-date about circulating scams. http://www.scamwatch.com/scams/sacm001.html There are many other places to read about scams. Look around, you might save yourself a lot of problems.
Other things you should do:
- Contact the actual people of any testimonies that are given. This can shed a lot of light on the business in question.
- Check out the company at your local Better Business Bureau and Attorney Generals office in your area.
- Make sure all phone numbers to the company are working numbers. Call them or check with the local phone companies and directories to see who the phone number is listed to.
- Look for a street address for sending payments. Never send to a PO Box. If they refuse to give the street address to you, that is a good indication that there is something not quite right.
These are just a few things you need to get in a habit of doing. Even if it seems like a huge pain, it is the best action to take for yourself. No one else will be looking out for you. Your Caution is Required.

Retirement Gifts
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
A teacher was retiring after 30 years of teaching, so each child decided they wanted to bring her a special retirement present. A little girl who was the daughter of a fine chocolate dealer brought her a box full of fine chocolates.
A little boy who was the son of a florist brought her a big bouquet of flowers.
Another little boy who was the son of a fine liquor dealer brought her a big box that was sealed, and it had something leaking from the bottom of the box.
The teacher said, "I bet I know what this is!" She tasted some of the juices that were leaking from the box and said, "I bet this is some wine!"
The little boy said, "Nope!"
She tasted it again and said, "Liquor?"
The little boy said, "Nope!"
She tasted it again and said, "Beer?"
The little boy said, "Nope!"
She said, "Well what is it?"
The little boy said, "A puppy!"

A little girl and a little boy were at day care. The girl approaches the boy and says, "Hey Tommy, wanna play house?"
He says, "Sure! What do you want me to do?"
The girl replies, "I want you to communicate your thoughts."
"Communicate my thoughts?" said a bewildered Tommy. "I have no idea what that means."
The little girl smirks and says, "Perfect. You can be the husband."

When my brother-in-law was on leave from the Navy, he brought home a heavily tattooed friend.
We all sat down to Sunday lunch and my four-year-old nephew couldn't take his eyes off the man's colorful arms.
Curiosity finally got the better of him. Politely, he asked the visitor, "Didn't your mother give you paper to write on?"

When my wife and I moved to El Paso, Texas, from the East Coast, we fell in love with the change of scenery: the desert, the beautiful sunsets, the wonderful Southwestern vistas.
When a native Texan asked what we thought of the area, I told him that I was impressed with the climate and the scenery, but I missed the beach.
"But we have lots of beaches near El Paso," he said. "We just lack an ocean."
