Tip of the Day

Lost Recycle Bin

Has your Recycle Bin icon ever disappeared from your desktop? Perhaps the icon was in place one night before you went to bed, but in the morning when you started up your computer again, it was long gone. Where did it go? What happened to it? But more importantly, how can you get it back? Well, there are a few things you can try to get your Recycle Bin icon back where it's supposed to be. So, if you've run out of options, give these a try!

The first thing you can do is right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Once there, hit the Desktop tab and then click on the Customize Desktop button. In the middle of that box, you will see some of the more common desktop icons. Click on the one for the Recycle Bin (it looks like a trash can) and then hit the Restore Default button. Click OK and then go take a look at your desktop. The Recycle Bin icon should be back, but if it's not, don't lose hope, because there are a couple other things you can still try!

For the next option, go down to your taskbar and right click in any open space. From the menu that pops up, click on Toolbars, Desktop. The word "Desktop" will then appear at the end of your taskbar with a double arrow beside it. Right click on those arrows and you will see an option for the Recycle Bin. Next, drag and drop that Recycle Bin icon to your desktop. That should reinstate your icon for you, but if you're still having trouble, try this. Right click on your taskbar again and go to Toolbars, New Toolbar. There should be an option there for the Recycle Bin as well. You can then drag and drop that icon to your desktop. Doing either of these three things should bring your Recycle Bin icon back and you can get on with your daily computing!

Today's Highlight in History

The Reno brothers carry out the first train robbery in U.S. history

On this day in 1866, the brothers John and Simeon Reno stage the first train robbery in American history, making off with $13,000 from an Ohio and Mississippi railroad train in Jackson County, Indiana.

Of course, trains had been robbed before the Reno brothers' holdup. But these previous crimes had all been burglaries of stationary trains sitting in depots or freight yards. The Reno brothers' contribution to criminal history was to stop a moving train in a sparsely populated region where they could carry out their crime without risking interference from the law or curious bystanders.

Though created in Indiana, the Reno brother's new method of robbing trains quickly became very popular in the West. Many bandits, who might otherwise have been robbing banks or stagecoaches, discovered that the newly constructed transcontinental and regional railroads in the West made attractive targets. With the western economy booming, trains often carried large amounts of cash and precious minerals. The wide-open spaces of the West also provided train robbers with plenty of isolated areas ideal for stopping trains, as well as plenty of wild spaces where they could hide from the law. Some criminal gangs, like Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, found that robbing trains was so easy and lucrative that for a time they made it their criminal specialty.

The railroad owners, however, were not about to sit back and let Cassidy or any other bandit freely pillage their trains. To their dismay, would-be train robbers increasingly found that the cash and precious metals on trains were well protected in massive safes watched over by heavily armed guards. Some railroads, such as the Union Pacific, even began adding special boxcars designed to carry guards and their horses. In the event of an attempted robbery, these men could not only protect the train's valuables, but could also quickly mount their horses and chase down the fleeing bandits--hopefully putting a permanent end to their criminal careers. As a result, by the late 19th century, train robbery was becoming an increasingly difficult--and dangerous--profession.

young seedlings — rice can, in fact, be grown in drained areas.

Woman in Business

Communicating in "Style"
by Sandy Karn

A basic premise in peak communications is to pay attention to the behavioral styles of everyone you communicate with and blend your styles with theirs.

People do what they do because they are internally motivated by their needs.  People's behavior is needs-driven. If you know what their dominant needs are, you will know what to expect from them.

It is important to know why people do what they do and what motivates them.   The key is to blend your style with the people you are communicating with and find the happy balance by blending your styles together for Optimal Results.

Our emphasis here is on how to sell ideas, goods and services with more success. Here are some important things to consider:  People like to buy from those people they like.

Sales people who are aware of the behavior of the people they sell to and their own style of behavior can better blend those styles together for less conflict and better results.  People are more pleased to be doing business with them because they are a better fit.

To be successful in sales, you want to do your best to create an environment in which the person is motivated to buy.  You do this with integrity and not manipulation.

Communications that create the "want to buy" :

Motivating elements for selling the High D:

They like to be on top of their game.  They like to win in their business.  What do you have that can help them do that?

Motivating elements for selling the High I:

Give them a lot of chances to talk.  They will want to talk so let them.  Keep your focus while they're talking, but let them talk.  It will be important to them.  For some, that is the way they process ideas.  They process by talking, not just hearing facts and figures.

Motivating elements for selling the High S:

Plan to spend some quality time completely explaining what your products and services can do for the High S's and their families.  You will want to completely explain all their benefits so they have confidence they are making the right decision for buying.

Motivating elements for selling the High C:

They don't like losses, so if you see where they are in a position to lose out on something in their business without your products and services, ask them questions relative to that.  That would be very important to them.  Saving them different kinds of losses could be a solid benefit for them.

When you consistently talk to the needs of others, you will be singing with joy over your results.  Always, BE SINCERE!

Wishing You the Very Best!

Growing Old

 1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
 2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
 3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
 4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you  once got from a roller coaster.
 5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
 6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
 7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.
