Printer Turnoff
Most people usually use their computers off and on all day, so they leave them on throughout the day and then just turn them off at night to save some power and also for safety reasons. So, you can use the same rules for your printer. If you're going to be printing off and on all day long, you might as well just keep the printer on until you're completely finished. If you're just going to print one item and then not print again for a few hours, turn it off!
The two reasons that go around this are electricity usage and ink cartridge print heads drying out. The bigger issue here may be the drying of the print heads, because printers really don't use that much electricity. The newer ones use even less, but older printers don't really use that much either.
Most ink cartridges have some sort of a capping mechanism that saves the head from any outside air that may come through when the printer is turned off. If you leave your printer turned on all day when you're not using it, you're just setting yourself up to have to buy another cartridge much sooner than you normally would. If your print heads dry up, your printing quality will be poor as well.
Make sure you always turn your printer off by the On/Off button and not by flipping your power strip device. When you use the On/Off button, the capping mechanism I mentioned above will fully engage and do its job correctly. Otherwise, it won't and your cartridge will still be at risk for drying out much too quickly. I usually leave it all the time unless I need to print something, and when I'm done off it goes again.

Seward's Folly
On this day in 1839, U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward signed a treaty with Russia for the purchase of Alaska for $7 million. Despite the bargain price of roughly two cents an acre, the Alaskan purchase was ridiculed in Congress and in the press as "Seward's folly," "Seward's icebox," and President Andrew Johnson's "polar bear garden."
The czarist government of Russia, which had established a presence in Alaska in the mid-18th century, first approached the United States about selling the territory during the administration of President James Buchanan, but negotiations were stalled by the outbreak of the Civil War. After 1865, Seward, a supporter of territorial expansion, was eager to acquire the tremendous landmass of Alaska, an area roughly one-fifth the size of the rest of the United States. He had some difficulty, however, making the case for the purchase of Alaska before the Senate, which ratified the treaty by a margin of just one vote on April 9, 1867.
Six months later, Alaska was formally handed over from Russia to the United States. Despite a slow start in U.S. settlement, the discovery of gold in 1898 brought a rapid influx of people to the territory, and Alaska, rich in natural resources, has contributed to American prosperity ever since.

Avoid the H0ME based business scams and find a
legitimate H0ME business!
by Michele Miller
Nowadays, there are so many scams around! People who take advantage of innocent people since they know so many of us want to work from home.
Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! But, you need to know more than that if you are to truly avoid getting ripped off.
I think it's good advice to give when I say, AVOID anything that talks about stuffing envelopes, pyramid schemes, and people that say you can make $2,512.16 cents working in your pajamas in the next 24 hours etc. Yes, you've heard about these golden opportunities before, I'm sure. Now there may be some legitimate stuffing envelope opps out there, but most are just a way to get your money and give you a list of companies that might pay you to stuff envelopes, but they don't give you the actual opportunity! Usually the information you're given is to place the same type of ad yourself.
Don't pay for lists of companies that provide work at home. If somebody needs an employee, it's up to them to advertise where people can find the opportunity, and not where people have to pay to see the opportunity. These lists are usually a list of companies straight from your phone book and these companies have no idea they are even on a list that has been sold to you!
If anybody tries to pressure you into joining a multi-level marketing company, take the time to think about it and make sure it is a reputable business opportunity that you even want to consider joining. Don't let yourself be pressured into anything. A lot of these are legitimate, but some are not.
Ask for references, testimonials etc. Check there have been no complaints against the company by checking with the Better Business Bureau etc. Most larger businesses do belong to this association. Also, check with the National Fraud Information Center http://www.fraud.org You can also check http://www.groups.google.com and see from the newsgroup postings if anybody has reported a scam.
The US Chamber of Commerce now apparently has more members than any other small business association. This can be an important resource when it comes to your business. They offer members all kinds of advice about starting and maintaining a business, and even have workshops you can go to. They also help their members get discounts on various products and services, from office supplies to health insurance.
Look around your area for other small business associations before joining the Chamber of Commerce. There may be other associations better suited to your needs.
The SBA (Small Business Association) has been
around since 1953. http://www.sba.gov/ They have helped provide many
small companies with business loans and other professional advice.
Definitely worth checking out their website.
http://www.score.org/findscore/ This is
an outstanding association.
The SCORE Association is a national nonprofit organization. SCORE’s 10,500 volunteers provide small business counseling and training through a network of 389 chapters, 800 branches and its Web site is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
There are legitimate work at home opportunities available, but you must do diligent research before succumbing to any of them, especially the ones that seem too good to be true.

Great Expectations

The man walked over to the perfume counter and told the clerk he'd like a bottle of Chanel No. 5 for his wife's birthday.
"A little surprise, eh?" smiled the clerk.
"You bet," answered the customer. "She's expecting a cruise."

A young private sought permission from his Commanding Officer to leave camp the following weekend. "You see," he explained, "my wife's expecting." "Oh," said the Officer, "I understand. Go ahead and tell your wife that I wish her luck."
The following week the same soldier was back again with the same explanation, "My wife's expecting." The Officer looked surprised. "Still expecting?" he said, "Well, well, my boy, you must be pretty bothered. Of course you can have the weekend off."
When the same soldier appeared again the third week, however, the Officer lost his temper. "Don't tell me your wife is still expecting!" he bellowed. "Yes, sir!" said the soldier resolutely, "She's still expecting."
"What in heaven is she expecting?" cried the Officer.
"Me." said the soldier simply.

A man went to a psychiatrist and said he was worried that he was a dog.
"It's terrible," said the man, "I walk around on all fours. I keep barking in the middle of the night and I can't go past a lamp post any more."
"Okay," said the psychiatrist. "Lie down on the couch."
The man replied, "I'm not allowed on the couch."

While waiting in line at the Department of Vehicle Services for my personalized license plate, I heard the clerk shout out, "E I E I O." "I'm here," the woman standing next to me answered.
Curious, I asked if she was a farmer or maybe taught kindergarten.
"Neither," she replied. "My name is McDonald."
