Tip of the Day

CPU Usage

Even when you're not using any programs, there will still be a small percentage being used due to the antivirus, firewall, spyware, etc. programs you have running in the background. It's nothing to worry about, but it's good to keep all of that in mind just in case.

To see how much of your CPU is being used at any given time, you just need to open the Task Manager. The easiest way to do that is to hit Ctrl + Alt + Del (all at the same time). It will then pop right up on your screen. Now, the percentage number is under the Performance tab and it's located toward the left, labeled CPU Usage. You can watch it fluctuate back and forth between the percentages if you want as well. That way, you know exactly how much is being used at all times.

While you're in the Task Manager, you can also look at some other performance and networking numbers if you're interested in that. Again, it's always a good idea to keep your eye on these things

Today's Highlight in History

Sam Sheppard Dies

On this day in 1970, Sam Sheppard, a doctor convicted of murdering his pregnant wife in a trial that caused a media frenzy in the 1950s, died of liver failure. After a decade in prison, Sheppard was released following a re-trial and his story is rumored to have loosely inspired The Fugitive television series and movie.

In December 1964, a jury convicted Sheppard of second-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison. However, after a decade behind bars, Sheppard’s new criminal defense attorney F. Lee Bailey convinced the U.S. Supreme Court to grant his client a new trial because he had been denied due process. At the second trial, Sheppard was found “not guilty” in November 1966. The case put Bailey on the map and he went on to represent many high-profile clients, including the Boston Strangler, Patty Hearst and O.J. Simpson.

After being released from prison, Sheppard briefly returned briefly to his medical career and later embarked on a short stint as a pro wrestler called “The Killer Sheppard.” No one else was ever charged for Marilyn Sheppard’s murder although in the late 1950s a window washer named Richard Eberling, who had worked at the Sheppard house, came under suspicion when one of Marilyn’s rings was found in his possession. In the 1980s, Eberling was convicted of murdering another woman and he died in prison. Sam Sheppard, who became a heavy drinker in the last years of his life, died of liver failure on April 6, 1970, at age 46. The Fugitive television series and movie were rumored to have been loosely inspired by his story

Trivia

The largest bird egg in the world today is that of the ostrich.
Ostrich eggs are from 6 to 8 inches long and can weigh up to
three pounds. Because of their size and the thickness of their
shells, they take forty minutes to hard-boil.

How to Get Everything You Want in Business and in Life by Having B.A.L.L.S.
By Sandy Grason

Last week I was having coffee with a new acquaintance, "Jen" who just happens to be one of the most successful business women I've ever met. I was sharing one of my crazy manifesting stories when Jen leaned into me, as if she was about to share some juicy bit of gossip and said; "Sandy, you have got such big balls and that's why you get everything you want in business and in life"

Ahhhhhh! I fell backward, mouth wide open and began to laugh hysterically. "What are you talking about?!"

The rest of the day, I couldn't stop thinking about what Jen said and wondering "What does it mean to have 'balls'?" Is that even a good thing?

When I stopped to look at some of the amazing and FUN things that I've experienced in my life, I noticed that often times 'it' required me to step out of my comfort zone- sometimes in a major way.

So I came up with these tips and inspirations gleaned from my new favorite compliment.

How to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone & Find Your B.A.L.L.S. So You Can Get Everything You Want

B = Belief

You must have unshakeable belief in yourself and the World around you. It starts with a vision, and you have to believe that you wouldn't have this vision if you didn't already have everything you need to make it a reality.

A = Authenticity

You must be willing to authentically express yourself, even if it makes people uncomfortable. Be big. Be the Rock Star. Do not make yourself small in order to make others like you or to fit in. When you allow yourself to shine in your fabulousness, it will spill over onto those around you and lift them up.

L = Let's Get Loud

These are the lyrics to Jennifer Lopez's song "let's get loud", "You want to live your life, you got to live it all the way and don't you waste it. There's a feeling that could be so very sweet you gotta taste it. You gotta do it your way, you gotta prove it, you gotta mean what you say- you know what we're here for! Let's Get Loud".  There are words to live, love and laugh by.

L = Licious-ness

This is that Unique-ness that is only YOU. When you are clear in your Unique Essence, there is no competition. There is only one of you. When I turned 40, something happened & my "Sandy-ness" became "Sandy-liciousness." You must express your most delicious & fabulous self in every moment!

S = Super-Hero

You must be the super-hero of your life. There is no knight-in-shining-armor coming to save you. Imagine that your life is a movie and YOU are the hero, the super-hero. Your life is waiting to be written, you might as well make it a blockbuster hit! BE that which you desire. Starting now..... Go!

How Having B.A.L.L.S. Helped Me Get Everything I Wanted in Business and in Life

Having B.A.L.L.S. has enabled me to write a best-selling book, land an agent and get a top publisher.  Having B.A.L.L.S. helped me become an international speaker who steps out onto stages in front of thousands of people. Having B.A.L.L.S. has helped me create a 6-figure information marketing and coaching empire that allows me to work from home (often in my pj's) doing what I love with my husband and family by my side.

What could having B.A.L.L.S. do for you?

Would having B.A.L.L.S. help your business grow faster?  Would B.A.L.L.S. increase your bank account? Your client list? Your circle of influence?

You bet it would!  It's time to take action, right now. Go do something that scares you just a little. It is your responsibility to live your dreams!  It is your responsibility to bring your expression, your Unique Essence, your B.A.L.L.S. to the world. It's the only way you will get everything you want in business and in life.

So, go get 'em, baby!

  A Little Humor to Start the Week

The Golf Bag
=-=-=-=-=-=-=

About four or five years ago I was standing in a ticket line at LAX, and a fellow in a line parallel to mine had a golf bag slung over his shoulder. Since the line was long and airline ticketing is a slow process at best, we struck up a conversation. He brightened when I admired his golf bag, and he proudly stated that he was on the PGA Tour. Then he turned to me and asked the question all golfers ask: "Do you play?"

I shook my head, "I used to, but I quit because I wasn't very good. I shot consistently in the lower seventies."

There was a long, low in-take of breath, then "The lower seventies?"

"Yes," I admitted.

"Consistently?" he queried admiringly.

"Every hole," I confessed.

Billy's father picked him up from school to take him to a dental appointment. Knowing the acting roles for the school play were being posted that day, he asked Billy if he got a part.

Billy enthusiastically announced that he'd gotten a part. "I play a man who's been married for twenty years."

"That's great, son. Keep up the good work and before you know it they'll be giving you a speaking part."

-----

A young couple drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument, and neither wanted to concede their position.

As they passed a barnyard of mules and pigs, the husband sarcastically asked, "Are they relatives of yours?"

"Yes," his wife replied. "I married into the family."

-----

Jake had proposed to young Gina, and was being interviewed by his prospective father-in-law.

"Do you think you are earning enough to support a family?" the older man asked the suitor.

"Yes, Sir," replied Jake, "I'm sure I am."

"Think carefully now," said Gina's father. "There are twelve of us..."

Ever wonder why the IRS calls it Form 1040?
Because for every $50 that you earn, you get 10 and they get 40.

"Cooking for the Empty Nest"
Recipe of the Week

Fresh pesto

12-16 (depending on size) washed fresh sweet
basil leaves - cut off the stems
3/4 cup of the best olive oil you can afford (extra virgin is
the best)
1 T minced garlic
1/4 cup pine nuts or finely chopped/crushed walnuts
1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp lemon juice

Put in food processor and pulsate on high 30-40 seconds at a time, until the mixture is a paste consistency. The pesto is ready to serve over hot pasta, especially fettuccine or linguini. A little goes a long way, and it can be diluted with extra olive oil or cream, to taste. It also makes a good spread for French bread or bread sticks.

For a variation, add a chopped Roma tomato and omit the lemon juice and the pine nuts/walnuts.
