Friday Rant
The following is from a reader in New Jersey:
“You say -- As I see it, currently there are four types of groups in the health care coverage plans available in the US. First are those with insurance provided by their employers. These people may have a hard time recognizing that there is a health care problem, because they never see the money paid and have good coverage.
You are incorrect about this 1st group. Most (not sure of the percentage) of us who do have health insurance through our employer pay for part or all of the health insurance as a deduction from our pay (we pay ALL). It may be true that we don’t “see” the money paid, but we “feel” it and it gets higher and higher each year. Even if the amount taken out doesn’t get higher, at each renewal period, the company “shops” for insurance and ends up getting higher deductibles and lower coverage so they don’t have to pay as much if they are paying for any part of it, which in turn means we end up paying more for going to doctors, hospitals and getting prescriptions. Until we can cut the cost of health care, things are not going to get any better. I know first-hand about catastrophic situations – I was in a near-fatal car accident (passenger) 5 years ago and had no insurance at the time. I was going to declare bankruptcy but instead made a deal with the hospital ($90,000+ bills) and am still paying off the bills now but it has changed my life.”

Thanks for your reply. There is a big difference between employers who pay for your insurance as a benefit to you, and those that allow their employees to join a group plan that they sponsor, which is what you are participating in. While yes, you do have an amount deducted each pay period, the group plan does save you, the employee, a considerable amount when compared to buying the coverage as an individual.
I do have to disagree with part of your statement however – “until we can cut the cost of health care, things are not going to get any better.” No matter what health plan there is, it will not become less expensive. The only thing that will change is who pays for it. Those who are paying for their policies now, or receiving it as a benefit at work, will see reduced coverage as those plans will be subordinated to the national plan. The private insurance companies will be the winners here.
Those receiving Medicare A&B have already seen this happen. If you are 65 or older, you must enroll in Medicare, and the amount you pay is deducted from your social security In other words you are paying for this coverage. Your coverage that you had prior to becoming 65 is now subordinated to Medicare which pays 80% and your current company becomes second in line and pays the balance after you meet their annual deductible. And, you must take and pay for Medicare otherwise your other insurance company will drop you.
Now, with the Obama National Plan, you are adding the same two levels that a person over 65 has for everyone in the country. You will pay for The National Plan indirectly through your taxes, and no matter what Obama promised in his campaign, your taxes will go up. Now think of it this way – everyone who works and pays taxes will pay for a health care plan that covers everyone. OK you might think, it works for those over 65, but does it? Many doctors will not accept Medicare patients because of the extra paper work they must file with the government. If you add a third level of bureaucracy to this payment process, more and more will join the ranks of not treating patients who must go through this process.
Do you really think the Doctors are going to accept a partial payment through the National Plan and write off the balance if the patient does not have either secondary insurance, or cannot afford to pay it themselves. Get real. Now, you might say the National Health Plan will mandate that the Doctors treat you, and accept what they get from that plan as payment in full. Many Doctors are already avoiding this as they only take a certain number of patients who pay an annual fee for their services, and those who pay this fee get preferential treatment. But they will be mandated to see you, you might think, and they probably will – when their schedule permits.
So what is the real solution. First – mandate that medical clinics be established that anyone can go to for zero cost, which is completely paid for by the government. In line with this do not treat someone in an emergency rooms, unless it is a real emergency, i.e. life threatening. That alone will save millions of dollars as all that expensive machinery and medical skills are not necessary to treat a minor scrape or a common cold. But that is where a significant part of our population goes for treatment of this nature. It could even be housed in the same building as the emergency room.
Make the use, and payment for a national plan voluntary. This will guarantee that the level of coverage you may currently receive is not diluted by doctors being forced to treat everyone without the incentive of being paid what they would normally charge.
And finally, stop the “handouts’ being given to those who do not work and do not want to work. There has got to be some type of community service these people could do to help defray the costs running government. But did you say “work?” Do you really think Obama and friends are going to risk the loss of their votes, because they want them to work, instead of paying them not to work? Get a life.

I received this medical tip from a friend; kinda strong medicine, but I thought it might help you, too:
If you're bothered by occasional or frequent constipation, repeat the following phrase three times in succession when symptoms occur:
"My financial and personal well being are totally in the hands of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Tim Geithner, Rahm Emmanual, Barney Frank, Charlie Rangle, Chris Dodd and Al Gore."
If that doesn't scare the crap out of you, then you are probably destined to be constipated for the rest of your life.

After 35 years of marriage, a husband and wife came for counseling.
When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married. On and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured.
Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk and after asking the wife to stand, embraced and kissed her passionately as her husband watched with a raised eyebrow.
The woman shut up and quietly sat down as though in a daze.
The therapist turned to the husband and said, 'this is what your wife needs at least 3 times a week. Can you do this?'
The husband thought for a moment and replied, 'Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I golf.'

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House.
One from Springfield, another from Petersburg, and the third from Washington.
They go with the new Fence Czar, recently appointed as the 22nd Czar, to examine the fence.
The Springfield contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.
'Well', he says, 'I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials,$400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.'
The Petersburg contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, 'I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me.'
The Washington contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the Fence Czar and whispers, '$2,700'
The Fence Czar, incredulous, says, 'You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?'
The Washington contractor whispers back, '$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the dumb fellow from Petersburg to fix the fence.'
'Done!' replies the new Fence Czar!
And that, my friends, is how business is done
in Washington!!!

Motivational Tip For The Day
by Jan Tincher
Do you know what the best kept secret of success is?
Your brain doesn't know the difference between something real and something repeatedly and vividly imagined.
Did you have an experienced that wasn't good? Why not get your brain busy seeing vividly, and repeatedly, a better experience. When your brain tries to think about the *real* experience, shift immediately to your visualization of a better experience. Do that continuously. Pretty soon, your thoughts will just go to the visualization.
An article that will help is: What Is Your
BioComputer Saying?
You will find it here: http://www.tameyourbrain.com/biocomputer.htm
