Your Ad on Plastic Bags

Retail stores of every kind use hundreds, thousands, MILLIONS of plastic bags. Many use paper bags as well ("plastic or paper?" are the only words many bag boys get to say.)

Large chains have bags with their logo printed on them, but most smaller stores have plain generic bags they buy from suppliers. Find out how you can get your ad printed on those generic bags.

Many small stores may be happy to include your ad on their bag if you pay for printing and include the store's logo as well. Consider having your own plastic and paper bags printed, then offer them to stores at a discount.

In a very short time your ad can be all over town. When I come home from the store, I often pull out the item and leave the bag on the kitchen table, then come back later to store the bag for future use. That's a lot of repeated "views" for your ad by any number of people who may see the bag today or in the future.

Ask local stores where they get their bags from. Contact the supplier to find out how you can get your own bag ad campaign started.

Plasma Television Technology

Cathode ray tubes (CRT) have been powering our television sets for longer than 75 years. The technology works when electrons are created in the tubes (made from glass), which stimulate the phosphor atoms. When these atoms light up, we see an image on our screens.

Today, new technology has changed that process with what we call "plasma flat panel display."  The screen on a plasma television is wide but just about six inches thick, far thinner than that of a standard television.  Because of this, you can set a plasma television on a stand or even hang it on the wall, much like a picture or display over the fireplace.

The way a plasma television works is that fluorescent lights will illuminate, which creates the image.  The light consists of thousands of pixels, which are small dots that have high-energy beams of electrons.  For the plasma television, each of these pixels consists of three colors - green, blue, and red.  The main component of the fluorescent light is the plasma, which is a gas consisting of free flowing ions and electrons.

The excellent color we see in plasma televisions comes as a result of electrons and phosphor interacting. Of course all new technology has its good and bad points. The greatest thing about plasma is that you can have a giant TV reminiscent of a movie screen and it won~t completely take over your room. Also, because there is such a large number of pixels, you can see a perfect picture from any angle.

As far as negatives, the plasma images are excellent but the old technology and new have not yet meshed, so the quality isn~t perfect. Also it~s so new that we don~t know how reliable or long-lasting these screens are. If you buy one, seriously think about an extended warranty or service plan.

Plasma technology is still very costly. You can pay anywhere from $2,500 to $20,000 or even more. One thing to be aware of; the technology is still changing so there are a lot of already discontinued models available. It might make good sense to look at some that are not made anymore and sell for less than they used to. There is no good reason to buy one a little more sophisticated, when it will cost you thousands of extra dollars. You can buy a new sound system to go with the TV using the money you just saved.

Vitamin E In The Pink Again: It Helps Protect Diabetics Against Heart Attack

In the midst of all the anti-vitamin E frenzy, which made headlines in most major media outlets, nutritional researchers continue to quietly, steadily perform and publish studies that demonstrate the value of supplemental doses of this nutrient.

For example: researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel recently found that diabetics with a specific genetic “quirk” were significantly protected against heart attack and heart disease-related death when they took 400 IU of vitamin E each day.

That genetic quirk is the 2-2 form of haptoglobin. Simply put, haptoglobin is a blood protein made by the liver that helps to preserve iron levels in the body. It has been found that diabetics with this 2-2 form of haptoglobin are at an enormously elevated risk of cardiovascular disease—in the neighborhood of 500 percent increased. Supplementation of vitamin E in these patients reduced heart attack risk by 43 percent and the risk of dying of a heart attack by 55 percent.

Concerned that you might have the 2-2 form of haptoglobin? Speak with your doctor about it if you like. The science on this is still young and clinical testing for it is not widely performed. In the meantime, you can always take your vitamin E and other nutrients for heart health—just to be on the safe side.
