Everything You Do Can Be Marketing

We often think of marketing as the ads we buy. In reality, marketing is a much, much bigger picture. Just about everything you do in your business, if it is designed to get and keep customers, is marketing.

Your name, your product or service, the color of your package, the size and shape of your package, and the location of your business can all be types of marketing. The more you think of marketing in this includes-all way, the better your business will be at getting and keeping customers.

Recently the office building we were in was sold and we had to find a new home. Since several employees take mass transit to work, they asked if we could find new space downtown where trains and busses are plentiful.

I had never thought of our location as marketing, but it immediately hit me when we moved into an impressive downtown high-rise just steps from major dot-coms and ad agencies. Hmmmm. Suddenly we had an additional new source of customers.

Make your marketing vision cover every possible way you can reach, sell, and keep customers: media publicity, the information you give out over the phone, the ease of ordering on your web site, the training you give your employees, the willingness of your sales people to take extra time with customers.

PayPal Alternatives: "Do You Have a Backup Plan?"
by Merle

Many people think that in order to do business online you need to have an expensive merchant account to have the ability to take payments by credit card from your customers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Merchant accounts can be hard to get and the monthly fees can really add up.

So what's an honest Internet Entrepreneur to do?

The answer for most is Paypal.com. It's easy to set up an account, and fees are low and depend on your monthly sales (for most it will be 2.9% and .30 per transaction). You'll find most Net users trust and use PayPal for their everyday purchases, so they won't have a problem using it on your website to purchase from you.

However, relying solely on PayPal.com for your business can be risky. Should you ever lose your PayPal account or you have it "frozen," your online income will come to a screeching halt. You need a backup plan; another way to accept payments -- or you'll have to close up shop. This is the same thing as relying on one stream of income. If you lose your job your only source of revenue dries up as well. That's why multiple streams are best to keep you in the green.

So who are some of the others? I thought you'd never ask:

1) Bidpay: http://www.BidPay.com

This service is available only for those who buy and sell at online auctions. Buyers use their credit or debit card to make their purchases from you and BidPay sends you a Western Union Money Order or the payment is directly deposited into your checking account if you live in the U.S.

2) CCNow: http://CCNow.com

A shopping cart solution that also allows you to take all major credit cards without a merchant account. They pay you your earnings twice a month and while your money is sitting on account it earns 1.5% APR.

3) DigiBuy: http://www.DigiBuy.com

For those who sell software. Puts you in control of pricing, order forms, and delivery options. Pricing varies with two service levels to choose from. Your earnings are paid to you monthly minus their 13.9% per transaction fee ($3.00 minimum). Digibuy allows you to accept payments by Visa, MasterCard, Amex,Discover or Diners Club.

4) Ikobo: http://www.IKobo.com

With merchant fees at $2.99 plus .29 per transaction, and no extra fees for international transactions. You can sell to buyers in 170 countries. Pay- ments are deposited to your bank account or to your Ikobo Visa debit card.

5) 2CheckOut: http://www.2CheckOut.com

It will run you $49.00 to open an account, then it's .45 per sale and 5.5% of the sales amount. Includes free shopping cart and codes to add to your website. Will also work with your existing shopping cart if you just need a way to take credit card payments. Can be used for tangible or digital download products. With 2CheckOut, you can take payment from all credit cards and even check and debit card payments.

6) ClickBank: http://www.ClickBank.com

A great service which I've used for years. Good for selling digital products and comes with a built-in affiliate program. You'll have to pay a one time fee of $50.00, then it's only $1.00 plus 7.5% of each transaction. Allows you to take payments from all credit card types.

7) ShareIt: http://www.ShareIt.com

For selling software and shareware online. Your customers can pay by credit card or debit cards even checks. Receive your money by check or electronic transfer to your bank account. Fees are based per transaction with no monthly charges.

8) ProPay: http://www.ProPay.com

Accept payments by credit card via the web or even by phone. Funds are deposited into your ProPay account. You can get a ProPay MasterCard to access your funds or transfer your earnings to your bank account. They have four types of accounts to choose from: Basic, Premium, Premium Plus, Platinum, with annual pricing from $34.95 all the way up to $299.95, depending on the features and type of account you need.

9) Ibill: http://tinyurl.com/3oc88

For businesses selling services and subscriptions. Gives you the ability to accept payments by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, JCB, Online Checks, even by phone via a special 900 toll free number. Fees vary, but if you reside in the U.S. and your sales are from $0 to $9,999, the charge is 15.19% in a billing period.

10) Money Bookers: http://moneybookers.com/app/

Money Bookers offers a merchant feature that allows you to create order buttons for your website and be paid by credit card. Fees range from 2% all the way up to 8%, depending on how payments are made. No setup or monthly fees. You can accept payments from over 30 countries. Money can be transferred instantly to your bank account.

Don't wait for disaster to strike before opening another web based payment account. Like a "good scout," you want to be prepared in the event you need a backup. You never know what tomorrow will bring so get your house in order now.

I've Got To Be Dead
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

An elderly couple are both lying in bed one morning, having just awakened from a good night's sleep. He takes her hand & she responds, "Don't touch me."

"Why not," he asks. She answers back, "Because I'm dead."

The husband says to her, "What are you talking about? We're both lying here in bed together & talking to one another."

The wife says, "No, I'm definitely dead."

Her husband insists, "You're not dead. What in the world makes you think you're dead?"

His wife answers, "I know I'm dead because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts!"

My cousin worked on the Alaska pipeline as a welder. He said helicopters were a big help in covering the rugged ground. I've never forgotten a story he told about being in the communications room of one of the base camps when a call came in. A panicked voice called to request another helicopter be sent up to the forward work camp.

A supervisor happened to drop in and heard the conversation between the dispatcher and the mechanic..

He got on the radio to ask the mechanic on the other end why they need another helicopter.

The obviously harried mechanic paused before transmitting his reply, then said vaguely, "Well, the one we have won't fly."

The frustrated supervisor pressed the question, "Why won't it fly."

After a long pause came another reluctant response, "Well, I say it won't fly because it's upside down. The pilot says it won't fly because it's under twenty feet of water."

An older couple regularly attended church. The pastor was much impressed by how harmonious and how in love they seemed. They always held hands all through the service.

One day after church, the pastor couldn't resist going up to them to express his admiration. He said, "I find it so inspirational to see how deeply in love you are, even, after all these years, holding hands like that."

The wife looked up sharply and said, "It's not love, Pastor, I'm just keeping him from cracking his knuckles."

Patrick went into his favorite pub in Dublin and ordered 3 pints of Guinness, to be served all at the same time. The bartender put the three pints in front of him, and he took a little sip out of one, put it down; then took a little sip out of the second, put it down; and then took a little sip out of the third. He put it down, went back to the first pint, and started the process all over again, until he had drunk all three pints.

Then he paid the bartender and left.

This went on for months, every night the same thing. Finally, the bartender cannot stand it any longer, and he approaches Pat.

"Patrick", he says.

"Aye", says Patrick.

"I've been watching you come in here for months. Every night you order the same thing. Three pints. All at once. Then, instead of drinking them one at a time, you take a little sip out of each one until you eventually finish all three. Then, you just leave. I have never seen anything like that. I don't want to be prying into your personal affairs but, if you wouldn't mind telling me, WHY?"

"Well, you know me brothers Michael and John moved to New York".

"Aye".

"Well, I promised me brothers that I would have a pint every night in our favorite pub, just like in the old days, in remembrance of the time when we were together. So, that's what I do each night. Me and my brothers are having a drink together. Do ya' understand now?"

"Aye".

This goes on for years. In fact, Patrick becomes rather famous in the pub for it. Finally, the time comes when Patrick orders only two pints. He drinks them the same way and leaves, but everybody knows something is terribly wrong. After a few weeks, nobody can stand it anymore, so they ask the bartender to approach Patrick about it.

So, the bartender approaches Pat and asks, "Patrick?"

"Aye", says Patrick.

"I understand there has been a tragedy in your family".

"WHAT? What tragedy??"

"Well, one of your brothers died recently, I understand".

"What!!!! Me brothers are fine, never healthier. Why would you think something happened to one of me brothers??"

"Well, you always used to drink three pints, every night; and all of a sudden you started drinking only two pints. We assumed that something happened to one of your brothers."

"Noooo... me brothers is fine. It's just that the doctor said I had to take better care of myself, so I decided to quit drinking."

Fact of the Day

Howard Hughes' original fortune came from his father's invention of an oil drill bit capable of boring through subterranean rock.

Health Tip of the Week
by Dr. Earl Mindell

Cancer Danger Moves To Forefront Of Health Concerns

In January of this year, the world got news that I’ve been expecting for some time now: cancer has become the number one killer of Americans under the age of 85. Heart attacks, which held the fearful spot of Number One Cause of Death for quite some time, have lost their top rung in people younger than 85, mainly because of improvements in early diagnosis, treatment, and risk factor control.

People can be diagnosed more quickly when they have symptoms of heart disease. They can be treated with surgeries or drug therapy, and an arsenal of drugs is devoted to keeping blood vessels clear in the years following a heart disease diagnosis. Smoking rates have fallen dramatically, and the recommendations so coolly scoffed at by the Big Burger fanatics have led to nationwide improvements in blood pressure and cholesterol counts. (The drugs are overused and the dietary guidelines underused, but that’s a story for another article.)

Cancer is a trickier foe that can take root in virtually any organ system. It begins deep in the DNA, and can arise from many different kinds of mutations that are caused by many known and unknown factors. While early detection and treatment for the Big Four—cancers of the cervix, breast, colon, and prostate, which comprise nearly half of newly diagnosed cancers—are greatly improved and improving, other cancers are much more mysterious and deadly. The combined five-year survival rate of the four most common cancers is an encouraging 84 percent; the five-year survival rate for pancreatic, liver, esophageal, and lung cancers is much lower. Less than 15 percent of those with these cancers live for five or more years following diagnosis.

Researchers have estimated that some 40 percent of cancers are caused, at least in part, by poor dietary choices. While dietary shift may help us to avoid the dreaded diagnosis of cancer—both by eliminating dietary carcinogens and by harnessing nutrients’ cancer-fighting abilities—this won’t protect us against the carcinogens that aren’t found in foods. There are viral carcinogens (several forms of the human papilloma virus, linked with cervical cancer; hepatitis B and C), ultraviolet rays from the sun, and medications. And let’s not forget the hundreds of synthetic chemicals we’re exposed to at work and in our homes, many of which are suspected or known carcinogens. We can try to get away from it all, but so much of it is already in our bodies—and has spread across the globe in our food supply.

Best bet: a super-nutritious, plant-based diet and comprehensive supplement program to help your body resist the formation and growth of cancer. Hopefully, continuing progress in early cancer detection and treatment will help increasing numbers of people survive cancer, but in the end, prevention is the best medicine.
