Biz Tips
by Dr. Kevin NunleyCreating a Successful M-L-M Business
There was a time when Multi-Level-Marketing was a dirty word to many people. It conjured up images of uncle Eddy inviting neighbors over for dinner only to hound them mercilessly to join his organization.
The Internet and America's sharp move toward home-based business has changed much of that. Today M-L-M companies have huge operations that rival any of America's large corporations. Members don't have to bug friends and neighbors because they can find plenty of opportunity seekers online.
I've watched the M-L-M industry for years. Lots of people don't make money at it because--surprise--they don't work very hard to make their business a success. On the other hand, I know plenty of folks who worked with determination and were earning six figures within a few years.
Here are some things to consider when setting up your M-L-M business:
1. Consider how much the business will cost you each month. If one opportunity requires you to buy $50 in product each month while another wants you to purchase $200 in product, pick the one you can easily afford month after month.
2. Get into a business that sells consumable products or services. You want customers who use it up and come back for more month after month. Repeat product sales is where the big checks come from.
3. Come up with a marketing routine that keeps you motivated. Talk to people you meet, network online, send out postcards, talk to groups. Find what works best for you, then do it, do it, do it long after anyone else would have given up. In business, being stubborn is an asset.

"There Are Three Kinds of People
Those Who Can Count and Those Who Can't"
To Make More Sales, Try Making More Friends
C.J. Hayden, MCC"Learn to love, respect and enjoy other people."
-- Dale Carnegie
In 1936, Dale Carnegie published "How to Win Friends and Influence People." Since then, his book has sold more than 15 million copies and is widely credited as being the first book in the modern self-help genre.
The core of Carnegie's simple philosophy is that one of the greatest human needs is to feel important. If you want to win people over to your way of thinking, they need to like you. And the way to get them to do that is to take an interest in them.
When learning how to sell better, we often hear the advice to ask questions and listen to the customer. This advice, though, is frequently given in the context of using questions to gather information helpful to the sales process, and to listen for clues that will help you convince the customer to buy.
What Carnegie suggested was that the true path to being a successful salesperson, leader, or well-liked individual was not to focus on your desired outcome, but to put your attention on the other person. Here are Carnegie's six ways to get what you want by making people like you:1. Become genuinely interested in other people.
2. Smile.
3. Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
5.Talk in terms of the other person's interests.
6. Make the other person feel important -- and do it sincerely.
Notice the emphasis on being genuine and on sincerity. Despite the fact that Carnegie was talking about how to persuade people to adopt your point of view, this really isn't some sort of manipulative sales technique. It's a recipe for making friends.
This idea wasn't just a personal theory of Carnegie's. To write his book, he interviewed the most successful people of his day, from Clark Gable to Franklin D. Roosevelt. He studied the writings of philosophers from Confucius to Benjamin Franklin, and the lives of famous leaders from Abraham Lincoln to Henry Ford.
Carnegie spoke with many professional salespeople, and also with many of their customers. Here's what he discovered: "Thousands of salespeople are pounding the pavements today, tired, discouraged and underpaid. Why? Because they are always thinking only of what they want... The world is full of people who are grabbing and self-seeking. So the rare individual who unselfishly tries to serve others has an enormous advantage. He has little competition."
All the great salespeople I know are people others refer to with adjectives like "friendly," "nice," and "likable." When you see them across a room, you are drawn to them. When you get on the phone with them, you don't want to hang up. They seem to have the ability of making you feel as if their conversation with you is the only thing in the world that matters to them.
And they're not faking it.
What sort of shift might it create in your selling if you took Carnegie's advice to heart? If instead of trying to make sales, you simply set about making friends? Imagine what a difference it would make to how you dealt with everything from cold calling to attending networking events.
Picture yourself on a cold call, smiling, talking about the other person's concerns, and making him or her feel important. Visualize yourself at a Chamber of Commerce mixer, getting people to talk about themselves, and expressing your interest in what they have to say.
Showing a genuine interest in others not only makes them feel good, it makes you feel good. Instead of trying to convince someone of your point of view, your job becomes to see everything from the other person's side. Conversations that used to be challenging sales situations can instead become opportunities to make new friends.
If this approach appeals to you, here's what to do next in Carnegie's own words: "So, if you desire to master the principles you are studying in this book, do something about them. Apply these rules at every opportunity. If you don't you will forget them quickly. Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind."

Christmas Gift
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=One year, a particular harried husband decided to buy his
mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift. The next year, he didn't buy her a gift.
When she asked him why, he replied,
"Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!"
-----My next-door neighbor and I frequently borrow things from each other. Not long ago, when I requested his ladder, he told me he had lent it to his son.
Recalling a saying my grandmother used to repeat, I recited, "You should never lend anything to your kids, because you will never get it back."
With that, he responded, "No problem - it's my dad's."

During a trip from California to Indiana, it didn't help that my connecting flight from Denver was delayed twice because of mechanical problems. Then, after we were aloft, I noticed the lights began flickering.
I mentioned this to a flight attendant. "I'll take care of it," she said. Moments later the lights went out. Clearly she had solved the problem by turning off all the lights.
A passenger across the aisle who had been watching me leaned over and said, "Whatever you do, please don't ask about the engines."

"I was in a customer's home one afternoon and while I was talking to the customer, their 4 year old little girl whose name was Michelle, tugged on my pants leg and excitedly exclaimed, "I got a new bicycle, do you want to see it?"
I said, "Sure Michelle." So off to the backyard we went. Upon getting into the backyard, I saw a brand new girl's bicycle. "Wow, Michelle!! That's a beautiful bicycle." I complimented. "Can you ride it?"
"Yeah, I can ride it," she said, then with a sad face she pouted, "but it's broke."
I looked at the new bicycle and couldn't see anything wrong with it, so I asked her, "What's wrong with it?"
"I don't know," she shrugged, "but every time I ride it, it falls down!"

Fact of the Day
On May 18, 1980, Mt. St. Helens, Washington erupted with a force 500 times greater than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Health Tip of the Week
by Dr. Earl MindellThe Amazing Goji Berry!
Also known by their Latin name, Lycium barbarum, goji berries have a long history as food and medicine in Chinese culture. Today, they grow wild and are cultivated primarily at high elevations in areas in and around the Himalayas— the mountains that contain Mt. Everest, the highest peak on Earth.
Pure, mineral-rich soils and pure, abundant waters from the peaks of this mountain range provide ideal growing mediums for more than 18,000 exotic plant species in that part of Asia. Some 8,000 of the plants unique to the areas in and around the Himalayas are believed to have medicinal value. Ancient Himalayan healers are thought to have provided the foundation for the natural medical practices that today are known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda.
The berries of the goji plant are among the world's most potent superfoods. Like other deeply colored berries—cranberries, blueberries, blackberries——goji is rich in anthocyanins, the purple antioxidant pigment that has been found to support better vision and circulation. Anthocyanins are also believed to help prevent cancer, control diabetes, and slow down age-related reductions in memory and thinking ability. It's no wonder that Chinese folklore calls goji berries "happy berries" —supposedly, eating them causes incessant smiling!
More Of The Science Behind The Promise Of Goji
In peer-reviewed journals, Chinese researchers have published articles testifying to the various benefits of these nutrient-packed berries for the prevention and healing of poor immunity, chronic fatigue, and even the process of cancer development (carcinogenesis). It is one of the most antioxidant-dense foods known, which means that it broadly defends against conditions related to free-radical overload: heart disease, cancer, and premature aging, to name a few.
Ancient Chinese medical texts recommend goji for treatment of "chi deficiency," which manifests itself as low energy, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, and heart palpitations.
Goji contains unique polysaccharides that I like to call "Master Molecules" —complex carbohydrate molecules that are pivotal elements in cellular communication. Asian researchers, often at the forefront of nutritional research, are investigating these molecules intensively.
It contains all 8 essential amino acids, and 11 more for good measure—giving goji berries a higher protein content than whole wheat. Goji is also rich in a rare trace mineral called germanium, which is being aggressively researched as a nutritional weapon against cancer.
In addition, 20 other trace minerals; flavonoids, including the vision-protecting zeaxanthin; beta-carotene (more than in carrots); 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges; and a spectrum of B vitamins grace this berry with their presence. A nutrient called beta-sitosterol, which is anti-inflammatory and a useful treatment for prostate enlargement, is also found in goji berries in appreciable amounts.
Wait, goji has more: a sesquiterpene nutrient called cyperone, helpful to those who suffer from menstrual pain and high blood pressure; an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial compound called solavetivone; and an immunity-boosting compound called physalin, which boosts the activity of natural killer cells (in mouse experiments) and may turn out to help those with leukemia and hepatitis B. Other mouse and test-tube experiments show increases in physical endurance and immunity and decreases in the speed of cancer cell growth. Test-tube studies found that goji helped counteract heat-induced free-radical damage to sperm-producing machinery—the mechanism believed to damage fertility in men who wear briefs instead of boxers.
People who try goji juice report reduced coffee and sweet cravings and improved ease of weight loss. Many say that it's such an energizing drink that workouts were made much easier, and that they recovered more quickly from those workouts. Improvements in mental clarity and alertness—without the jitters that come from caffeine—have also been reported by people who have tried goji juice. Improvements in urinary symptoms from enlarged prostate have also been reported.
The Goji I Recommend—And Use Myself
Science aside, goji is delicious. You can enjoy the berries dried or as a juice—they haven't made it fresh into health food stores in the United States. Choose a juice made from cold-pressed, freshly picked berries. It's the one juice I recommend for children and adults alike.
Over 40 varieties of goji berry grow in Tibet alone, with more species grown in China and in areas in and around the Himalayas. Research using mass spectrometry has found that the most nutrient-dense goji berries come from the lush valleys that run through the Himalayan mountains.
Try drinking two to four ounces per day of goji juice, and tell your friends and loved ones to sample this nutritional powerhouse. You'll be glad you did.
