Sign On Your Car

As our cities sprawl with growth each year, many of us find ourselves commuting ever longer distances to work. Long commutes in slow traffic are making signs on automobiles an effective low-cost way to advertise.

You can use magnetic signs, window stickers, or have yourmessage painted on the side of your car, van, or tuck. Check the Yellow Pages for a printer, sign company, or banner maker who can provide your signs.

Because we tend to drive along with the same clump of cars for significant distances, people can see your sign for 15 to 20 minutes. Your signs can work as a prolonged highway infomercial.

An old media trick is to number your vehicles. One station had two vans: number 3 and number 7. People thought they had a whole fleet.

"The Incredible Image -- 8 Steps to Put Your Business’ Best Foot Forward
by Eric Gelb, MBA & CPA

Look into the mirror? Do you see your image--the You that others see?

Image counts Big-Time in today's super - competitive and demanding world. But the secret to developing a strong brand identity is to crystallize--in your target market’s mind and heart--the image you want to convey, and broadcast that message actively and consistently.

For example, how do you and your team treat your customers? Is your service somewhat like this?

**  Pens & Pencils and High Finance  **

Some months back, I met with my financial advisor from Insurance Company named Pete. Pete sported a 79¢ pen and his $4.99 solar Calculator - standard issue. Ugh.

This supposed sophisticated financial advisor expected me to sign a million-dollar life insurance policy. Yet, he handed me this cheap pen. And he used a lousy $5 calculator to make financial projections regarding my retirement.

Did Pete consider my family’s future to be important? Not that another calculator’s answer would be any different or better from the answer generated by the solar calculator mind you…but …

***  Perceptions Drive All.  ***

>  What are your customers’ perceptions about you?

>  Do your tools, materials, and style match your customers’ expectations and demeanor?

>  Do your actions, marketing tools and branding efforts Enhance your image?

Consider these eight (8) ways to shape and sharpen your image And help you develop your personal brand and your business’ Incredible Image:

1.  Decide what message you want to send your customers and the image you want to display.

2. Figure out what’s important to your customers and then design or redesign your image.

3. Study how other leading organizations, including your competitors, broadcast their message. What do they say?

4. Select the optimal way to broadcast your message and present your image.

5. Make Sure your actions consistently and continually Enhance your image.

6. Analyze whether any of your actions Detract from your image and make changes.

7.  Analyze whether your actions, business cards, web Site, e-mail sig (signature) files, brochures, letters, etc., are consistent with the image you want to broadcast.

8. Make sure your marketing programs are consistent from start to finish—Internally and Externally--and consistent with all your other business activities and initiatives. And consistent with your customers’ expectations.

Truth IS stranger than fiction. So remember, every marketing and promotion activity, every effort, etc. can make a difference.

Even a small yet novel approach, special trait, or standout quality will help you create your own distinctive brand and enhance Your Incredible Image, which in turn will set you ablaze in your marketplace. Then you'll truly multiply your business fivefold, tenfold or more.

Quote of the Day

There are four types of people in this world. There are people that make things happen. There are people that watch things happen. There are people that wonder what happened. And there are people that don't know anything happened.

A Little Humor

New Teacher
=-=-=-=-=-=

It was the first day at school. The students were all in their seats, waiting for the new teacher to start.

The teacher stands up, and says, "Whoever in here thinks they are stupid, please stand up."

The students all looked at each other, and finally, one boy stood up.

"Do you think you're stupid?" asked the teacher.

"No, said the little boy, "but I didn't want you standing there alone."

The boss was very exasperated with his new secretary. She ignored the telephone when it rang.

"You must answer the telephone," he told her irritably.

"All right," she replied, "but it seems so silly. Most of the time it's for you!"

Driving through Southern California, I stopped at a roadside stand that sold fruit, vegetables, and crafts.

As I went to pay, I noticed the young woman behind the counter was painting a sign.

"Why the new sign?" I asked.

"My boyfriend didn't approve of the old one," she said.

When I glanced at what hung above the counter, I understood. It declared, "Local Honey, Dates, Nuts."

Patsy offered to care for the eight-year-old daughter of her next-door neighbor. She arrived in time to prepare breakfast, laying a generous helping of bacon and eggs in front of the child. "Mother always serves hot biscuits for breakfast," said the eight-year-old.

So, Patsy, very eager to oblige, hurried into the kitchen and quickly prepared a plate of hot biscuits, which she laid in front of the girl. "No, thank you," she said.

"But I thought you said your mother always has hot biscuits for breakfast!" said Patsy in surprise.

"She does," said the child. "But I don't eat them."

No matter what internet marketing or networking biz you may be in...this tool may be the help you're looking for!  If the Internet is the fastest growing marketplace in the world, then video is the most effective form of communication ON the internet.

Studies show that using video on the net increases the likelihood that YOUR message will be remembered. $2 billion a year is already being spent in the US alone on digital and streaming media.  The projections put that number at $12 billion around 2010.

Health Tip of the Week
by Dr. Earl Mindell

Despite All Evidence That Healthy Eating Is Best, Consumers Can't Resist Junk

According to Andy Puzder, the CEO of the mega-corporation that owns the Hardee's and Carl's Jr. restaurant chains, "We don't tell consumers what they want. They tell us."

And what do we want? Apparently, we want things like the Monster Thickburger—1,420 calories of grease, toxin-laden meat, refined flour, and salt; Pizza Hut's 3-Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizza; Ruby Tuesday's Ultimate Colossal Burger; Burger King's Enormous Omelet Sandwich (the ad in the restaurant window shouts, "It's HUGE!"), IHOP's creative menu of items stuffed with sweetened cream cheeses; and Ben and Jerry's cone with room for two scoops of ice cream side by side.

Many of these food purveyors have given some effort to offering healthier choices in their establishments. Burger King now offers a veggie burger and most fast-food restaurants now offer salads and other more healthful choices. Pizza Hut has Fit N'Delicious lower-calorie pizzas. Ben and Jerry's offered low-carb ice cream. In the end, it turns out that consumers don't spend their money on those healthier choices. According to a survey by the market research company, the NPD Group, the top three most popular foods ordered by men in restaurants last year were: 1) hamburgers, 2) fries, and 3) pizza. For women, it was 1) fries, 2) hamburgers, and 3) pizza.

In the end, what's a restaurant chain CEO to do? It's not realistic to expect them to stop making unhealthy foods, because in this environment of "who cares what the food police say—give me that big, greasy burger," their competitors who don't just say no to junk will take all their customers away. Apparently, this is a part of human nature that is deeply ingrained and won't change just because we know certain foods are not so good for us.

Consumers report that if they are going to eat healthy, they stay home. When they go out, they want something decadent. If you share in this school of thought, I have a suggestion for you: if you can tone down that decadence even a little bit—order a burger with small fries and water instead of a Monster Thickburger with gigundo fries and huge-o-mongous soda, or a grilled chicken sandwich instead of the breaded and fried version, or a thin-crust pizza with half the cheese and extra veggies instead of the deep-dish cheese-and-pepperoni feast—you'll be making a difference in your health. Try splitting entrees with a friend, or save half your meal for later. And make sure that when you stay home, you really do eat healthy. If you eat out more than three times a week, especially if you are a fast-food junkie, you might want to consider eating at home more often.

One idea I got from a reader was to suggest to a couple of friends that you get together for healthy potlucks once a week or more. Each person who attends brings a healthful dish, based on vegetables, with at least one fresh green salad. It feels like a night out, but you don't have to fork over so much money. Having to make only one dish really gets those creative juices flowing, and you'll get to try new things. Have everyone bring recipes for what they make.
