Want to Make Money Online?

Don walked across the street from his house to mine to announce he had finally retired. "But I'm not ready for the golf course," he said. "I want to make a living on the Internet. What can I sell?"

This is a question many of us struggle with as we see money, freedom, and a bright future for those who manage to find their niche online. You may have tried to sell something from the Internet only to find it is difficult to get visitors to your web site and even harder to get them to buy.

The biggest hurdle is simple: most folks are trying to sell products to consumers. That's not where the money is. It is a more daunting task than most realize.

Only one percent of retail sales happens on the Internet. Even though selling to consumers should be gargantuan one day, we have a long way to go before the majority of people are placing orders the Internet way.

Instead, sell something to businesses. While consumer sales amounted to $20 billion last year, business-to-business purchases vaulted to a whopping $100 billion.

Clearly, if you want the easiest path to tapping into the landslide of Internet cash, sell a product or service needed by business.

So, you say, I should sell a product to businesses? Not exactly. Most products need to be sold in large volumes by many distributors before they turn a profit. Chances are the product you sell is also being pushed by hundreds or thousands of other affiliates. In the end, many business buyers will simply click to the main corporate site to make their purchase.

Your best bet for starting a small Internet business and earning a living online is to sell a service to businesses.

Unlike products, it is hard to mass produce a service. Most service providers find their competition is relatively thin. This is especially true if you provide a very specialized service or do your job in a particular way that is hard to duplicate. Because services require time spent by an experienced expert, rates can be high, especially for business customers.

But I'm not an expert in anything people on the Internet would want to buy, you exclaim. Not true.

Sit down with a pen and jot down all the things bosses have paid you for during your work career. Add to your list things you have done on your own time that friends, neighbors, or co-workers have felt were valuable.

Which of these things could be sold on the Internet? If you kept books for a business with twenty employees, you can sell your bookkeeping service to the vast number of small Internet businesses who don't have the time or expertise to manage their growing firm.

If you produced your church newsletter for several years, your desktop publishing and editing skills could fill the hot demand for people who can write and publish e-messaging campaigns, web sites, and print newsletters. Best of all, a writer/editor deals in pure information which is easiest and cheapest to deliver over the Internet.

My neighbor Don decided his skills from a career in law enforcement would be hard to sell on the Internet. But he knew lots of things businesses needed and he had a list of town residents who could fill those needs.

If you don't readily have a service you can sell to business, find someone who does. Many in-demand people don't know how to market themselves on the Internet or haven't the time to try. Represent their service online and take a commission for each sale.

Put up your own web site with some articles business customers will find helpful. They can do double duty, showing you know plenty about your line of work.

Post testimonials from satisfied customers or other experts in your industry. To get full impact, be sure to list the person's full name and the name of their business or city they live in.

Offer to send customers and prospects a monthly update via email. Include brief updates on important developments in the industry. Mix in three line ads promoting your service.

Selling a service to business is your least expensive way to get started making money online. It is also the quickest way to tap into the huge amounts of money traveling from business to business.

Generating Real Residual Income
by Timothy Rohrer

We've all heard it before, "buy this package now and I promise you'll become rich overnight." The following statement is just not true and there is no real "Holy Grail" on the Internet.  Many people feel as though the dot com boom has come and gone and I am here to tell you that those people are wrong.

I am not here to tell you what to get involved in or how to spend your money, rather to inform you on how to create multiple streams of income that can provide for making a living on the Internet.  The problem is everyone that looks for these types of home based businesses are looking for the easy way out.  They are looking for programs that will make them rich overnight and a millionaire in a year.

Being a home business owner and having nothing more than a few hundred dollars when I first began looking for home based business opportunities I can tell you that it’s work.  The major reason 99% of the people who whish to start a home business fail is that they have no business plan.  People tend to become very excited when they hear of a new money making opportunity and jump the gun before they realize what they are getting into.  Lets be real here, an online business is a commitment and it is a job.  If there is no consistency in the program you chose, you are destined for failure.

The first program I looked into was e-currency trading.  I had no idea what this program was or if it actually worked.  I had $100 to my name from selling my guitar and decided to invest that into e-currency trading.  The program provided to be a money making machine and what was once $100 was now $5,000 in just 3 months.  I thought to myself, this is great but why stop here?

Through e-currency trading I met some very wealth people and I thought the best thing to do was to stay in touch with them and find out how they were generating money or  how they had started initially.  Eventually my contacts in e-currency trading lead to a few very reliable wealthy friends who sprung me onto other opportunities and private investments that area still generating money to this day.  Before I knew it I had income coming in from e-currency, private investments, stocks and other business programs.

The key to generating unlimited amounts of money in my experiences is to network with people that are already wealthy and do what they are doing.  You don't need large amounts of money to become a wealthy person.  The only thing you need is consistency and a strong business plan.

A Little Humor

The Cheese Wheel
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

A Mexican family crosses the border to the Land of Milk and Honey where the streets are paved with gold. But the husband can find no work. His family is hungry, so he takes a walk to a quiet place at the foot of a big hill, kneels at the base of a tree, and begins to pray: "Sweet Jesus, please show me a way to feed my family..."

Eyes closed, the Mexican does not see a man coming over the top of the hill, who is struggling with a broken grocery sack and who loses a wheel of cheese. When the Mexican man opens his eyes, the large wheel of Cheddar cheese from the grocery bag rolls down the hill and lands at the Mexican's feet!

"Oh, thank you Jesus, thank you", he cries, grabs the cheese, and runs straight home. Upon returning home, he gives the cheese to his wife and instructs her to make nachos.

"But wouldn't you rather have cheese enchiladas and burritos and other things?" she inquires.

"No," the husband says, "Jesus sent this to me with a message.....  as I ran home, I kept hearing a voice yelling..............."THAT'S NA CHO CHEESE!"

Most Friday nights at the Naval Station in Bermuda, we would assemble at the officers club after work.

One Friday, Rick, a newly married ensign, insisted he had to leave at 6 p.m. We all tried to talk him into staying, but he'd promised his bride he'd be home by six. I offered to call home for Rick.

When his wife answered the phone, I said, "Rick has been kidnapped. Put five dollars in small, unmarked bills in a plain brown paper bag and throw it in the door of the officers club." Then I hung up.

A short time later, a waiter brought a grocery bag to our table. In it were Rick's baseball glove, a tennis racket and a teddy bear. Attached to the bear was a note: "Rick can play kidnapped until 7 p.m. Then he must come home."

There was a little old lady standing at a corner one windy day. She was using both hands to hold her hat on while the wind blew her dress up.

A dignified southern gentleman came up and said, "Ma'am, you should be ashamed of yourself, letting your skirt blow around, like that, while you stand there holding your hat on."

"Look," she said, "everything under the dress is seventy-years-old; this hat is brand new!"

Health Tip of the Week
by Dr. Earl Mindell

Food's Future Imperiled?

I saw a terrific documentary film recently that I think should be required viewing in the United States. It's called The Future of Food, and it's the work of Deborah Koons Garcia, widow of Grateful Dead singer Jerry Garcia.

If you aren't concerned about the genetic modification of foods, this film will show you why you should be. If you're already concerned, it will deepen your knowledge of exactly why GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are bad, bad news—yet another example of big agribusiness riding herd over the interests of individual citizens.

A few things I learned from this film:

GMOs are found in about 60 percent of processed foods. In the United States, they do not have to be labeled as such.

The science of GMOs is very young and potential health effects of integrating genes from completely different types of creatures—bacteria, animals, viruses—into those of plants for human consumption are not even close to being understood. Garcia chronicles the case of one woman who almost died due to an allergic reaction caused by GMO corn.

Genetic modification of crops has allowed companies like Monsanto to take out patents on the genetic makeup of seeds. First, they developed seeds, tweaking their genes to try to promote certain qualities in the produce grown from them—for example, grain crops that are resistant to Roundup, a widely used and highly toxic herbicide. They patented those seeds. Then, they began to patent as many seeds as they could, raiding seed stores in various universities and agricultural research centers and filing patents on them. From that point forward, no one could grow those seeds without paying them for the privilege.

GMO plants cannot be contained. This is possibly the scariest aspect of the GMO trend. Seeds are carried by wind and other routes into fields of farmers who have not planted GMO seeds. The compelling tales of two farmers—one in Canada and the other in the United States—are beautifully told in the film. Both had their crops sampled without their knowledge by Monsanto to see whether they were growing the GMO seeds patented by that company. The GMO plants were found in the fields and Monsanto demanded payment. Both farmers found this ludicrous, since they had not planted or even wanted to plant those seeds in their fields; both fought it in the courts. (Most farmers agree to pay a fine and settle out of court in exchange for not being sued by an enormously wealthy corporation; they are not allowed to discuss those settlements.) Both lost, and their lives and livelihoods were dealt a serious blow. It's hard to believe, I know, but it's the truth. No wonder Monsanto refused requests for interviews from Garcia.

Since the dawn of agriculture, farmers have harvested their own seeds and used them to plant next year's crop. Much art, science, and love has gone into carefully selecting seeds that will grow and survive best and that will yield the tastiest produce. But today, genetic engineering has created "terminator technology" that renders harvested seeds infertile, forcing farmers who use those seeds to buy new ones every year.

In the end, as GMO crops spread, they could become so mixed in with non-GMO crops that it will become impossible to grow organic produce (which, at present, is still required to be GMO-free). Impoverished third-world farmers could be pushed over the brink into famine. Organic growers could lose control of which produce is grown in their fields. Garcia is quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle, her hometown paper, "We are at a crossroads…Someone needed to make this film, because if this technology isn't challenged and if this corporatization of our whole food system isn't stopped, at some point it will be too late."

The biggest surprise for me was that genetic modification of crops has not been shown to increase yield—a line often quoted by GMO supporters to justify their practices. What genetic modification of crops is really about is putting control of the world's food supply into terrifyingly few hands. Hands that belong to gigantic, faceless, immensely wealthy corporations.
