Biz Tips
by Dr. Kevin NunleyDon't Ask Too Much
One of the most valuable things the web can do for business is supply bushels of very precise data on who your customers are and what they do.
In the past, businesses often had to guess about these things. Even expensive, sophisticated research left big holes in what a business knew about its customers.
Are we going overboard in our quest to know as much as possible about our customers? Many shoppers think so. It's a good idea to harvest some information about a customer when they are placing an order, but don't take it too far.
Many people give up the purchase and click away if they are asked to provide too much personal information.
This trend will only increase when consumers learn that the phone number they provide is often turned over to a telemarketing firm.
For situations where you want a maximum number of leads, ask a minimum number of questions. Often email address and a first name (to personalize future email messages) is all that is needed.

What's Holding You Back?
by Jim CathcartTo determine which aspect of selling might be holding you back, explore these eight questions.
If you are missing sales, is it due to:
1. Not knowing enough about your product, your competition, your industry or your customers? (Focus on the Preparation competency.)
2. Calling on people who are not good prospects for you? Could it be that you are not making enough calls? (Focus on the Targeting competency.)
3. Difficulty in getting people to open up to you and tell you what you need to know? (Focus on the Connecting competency.)
4. Not knowing the customer's real needs or motives? (Focus on the Assessing competency.)
5. Customers not understanding how much benefit they will gain from doing business with you? (Focus on the Solving competency.)
6. An inability to get customers to make a commitment to buy? (Focus on the Commitment competency.)
7. Having sales fall apart or having customers leave you for another source? (Focus on the Assuring competency.)
8. Difficulty in keeping yourself motivated to sell, or to find the time needed to do your work? (Focus on the Managing competency.)
Your answers will vary based on when you ask yourself these questions. So go to the specific parts of this system that are relevant to your immediate needs. Find the answers and get some results today! Later you can explore the other topics and sharpen all your skills. Spend at least fifteen extra minutes each day improving one aspect of your selling skills.

=-=-=-=-=-=I recently overheard a boss talking to one of his employees at a restaurant recently. "Was your wife mad when you got home so late last night?" the boss asked.
"Yes, she was plumb historical," the employee replied.
"Don't you mean hysterical?"
"No, I mean historical. She brought up things that happened forty years ago."

As a kid I learned many card tricks from magicians in Vaudville. I became so good at it that I wasn't allowed to play in a social game of any kind.
One day in New Orleans, I found a poker game in which I was offered a seat. It turned out that four of the players there were local cardsharps.
After a few hands one of them said, "This is the crookedest game I've ever been in. Ain't nobody playing the cards I dealt them?"

Dave's grandfather left him ten million dollars, and the next week Jill agreed to marry him.
After three months of married life, Dave noticed that his beautiful new wife was ignoring him more and more. On the rare occasion that she would go to bed with him she would be indifferent, or even worse, called out other men's names!
Whenever they went out in public, she ignored him and flirted with other men. Finally, he decided to confront her.
"Jill," he said, "the only reason you married me was because my grandfather left me ten million dollars when he died"
"Don't be ridiculous," she replied, "I don't care where your money came from!"

On opening his new store, a man received a bouquet of flowers. He became dismayed on reading the enclosed card, that it expressed "Deepest Sympathy".
While puzzling over the message, his telephone rang. It was the florist, apologizing for having sent the wrong card. "Oh, it's alright." said the storekeeper. "I'm a businessman and I understand how these things can happen." "But," added the florist, "I accidentally sent your card to a funeral party." "Well, what did it say?" ask the storekeeper.
"'Congratulations on your new location'." was the reply.

Health Tip of the Week
by Dr. Earl Mindell"Friendly Bacteria" Rx For Stress-Related GI Tract Problems
There's no doubt that the GI (gastro-intestinal) tract and the emotions are linked. When you're nervous, you get butterflies in your stomach; when you're anxious, nausea or diarrhea are common reactions; sadness can be felt in the stomach or as a "lump in the throat." Few people are better attuned to the GI-brain link than those with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), a group of symptoms that includes intestinal cramping, constipation, diarrhea, and bloating. Stress can bring on IBS symptoms or make them worse.
An estimated one in five Americans has IBS symptoms at least some of the time. No pharmaceutical drug has been developed that can comprehensively and reliably deal with IBS symptoms. Dietary interventions can work quite well—anyone who suggests that this collection of symptoms is unrelated to the modern processed-food diet is in serious denial—and identifying food allergies and sensitivities can help a lot. Eliminating gluten-containing grains (wheat, rye, barley), chocolate, dairy, alcohol, and caffeine can all have beneficial effects in IBS. So can finding ways to reduce the impact of stress on the sensitive GI tract. A recent study finds that supplementing with friendly probiotic bacteria can also help gut issues related to stress.
In the study, conducted at the University of Toronto in Canada, lab rats got either a normal diet or a diet supplemented with a powdered probiotic. Half of the rats in each group were subjected to a test designed to stress them out (in a way comparable to the stress response a human experiences) for an hour each day over a 10-day span. Both groups had a buildup of unfriendly bacteria in the GI tract in response to the chronic stress; but the group on probiotics had a significantly lower buildup, amounting to only 20 percent the density of the buildup in the non-probiotic group. Other markers of stress' adverse effects in the GI tract were modulated by the probiotics as well.
Probiotics are one of the nutritional supplements I generally recommend to everyone. They're very beneficial for gastrointestinal health, which is one of the most important foundations of overall wellness. Choose a live-culture supplement that contains Lactobacillus strains, along with plenty of prebiotics, or food for probiotics: inulin, oligosaccharides, and soluble fiber.
