Five Ways to Boost Your Marketing Power by Terri Seymour

Building an online business is not easy, especially when you are on a very limited budget.  As I come in contact with more people, I realize that numerous publishers and netpreneurs are overlooking some very effective fr~e advertising opportunities.  Examples of these opportunities are:

1.  Welcome letter for your subscribers - I subscribe to tons of groups and ezines and am always disappointed when I get the default welcome letter. Personalize it by introducing yourself and letting the subscriber know about your website/business.  This is a crucial moment in that you can start bonding/connecting with the reader before they even get your ezine.  *Inform them of any specials you might have. *Tell them your advertising rates and add a testimonial. *Invite them to your site to utilize the fr~e resources. *Let them know your email so they can contact you. *Use some of the space for ad swapping with other publishers and their welcome letters. *Add an affiliate product or program review.

2.  Goodbye letter for your subscribers - This is your last chance to get this person back.  Make it a good one!     Thank them for being a subscriber and encourage them to re-sub.  I also have a little message in my goodbye letter that encourages people to let me know why they unsubbed.  Example:   Thank you for being a subscriber to the Bulletin. I am sorry to see you go.   If you could take a minute to let me know why you unsubbed, I would appreciate it. Please drop a quick note to mailto:terri@seymourproducts.com?subject=unsub  Thank you.  By doing this you might be able to change their minds and if not, you could find ways to improve your ezine for the next subscriber.  Remember, always send them an appreciative thank you note as well.

3.  Email Signature - This simple but powerful method of promotion is unknown to some.  By using an effective email signature, every time your email goes out to someone, you have fr~e advertising.   Join several discussion groups and message boards to utilize your sigtag to the maximum.  Example of a email signature:  Warm regards, Jane Doser  FREE Ecourses - Sign-up for one or all! http://www.doser.com/ecourses.html Build Your Business with Us! mailto:subscribe@doser.com  You want to keep your signature fairly short - about 6 - 8 lines.  Many discussion groups will have a limit to the number of lines you can have in your sigtag.

4. P.S. - It has been found that a P.S. is very likely to get read.  Using a P.S. can be quite effective.  Make it short and to the point.  A P.S. novel will more than likely be ignored!  Example:  P.S.  Need more subscribers?  FR~E Report mailto:www.subscribers@getresponse.com  Then you would have your main message on auto- responder.  Do not just send them a sales pitch.  Add some useful information and resources that will actually help the reader.  This will get you more credibility, which is extremely important if you want more customers.

5.  Thank you page - An excellent way to get more subscribers is to get together with a group of fellow publishers and set up a group subscription page.  Every time someone subscribes to one of the group's ezine, the thank you page will come up with a message something like this:  Thank you for subscribing to the Bulletin.  Take this opportunity to check out more quality ezines.  Please check the ones you wish to receive.  You would have each groups member's ezine listed with a short description.  This is a very powerful method of gaining subscribers because the person is already in a subscribing mood and will most likely check most or all of the other ezines.  The above advertising opportunities are quite simple, but simple can be most effective!

A Little Humor

Birthday Gift

A couple had been debating the purchase of a new auto for weeks. He wanted a new truck. She wanted a fast little sports-like car so she could zip through traffic around town.

He would probably have settled on any beat-up old truck, but everything she seemed to like was way out of their price range.

"Look!" she said. "I want something that goes from 0 to 200 in 4 seconds or less. And my birthday is coming up. You could surprise me."

For her birthday, he bought her a brand new bathroom scale.

Nobody has seen or heard from him since.

Two robins were sitting on a fence post in front of a freshly plowed field.

One robin said to the other "I'm hungry! Are you?"

"Yes," said the other robin. "Why don't we go in this field and get some worms to eat." They went in the field and started eating.

More Bad News About Advair

Asthma sufferers have been prescribed a combination drug called Advair—consisting of salmeterol (a long-acting beta agonist, or LABA) and a steroid called fluticasone—in huge numbers. In 2005, a year during which Advair was its maker's top-selling drug, research found that salmeterol increased the risk of death from a severe asthma attack. In other words, a side effect of a drug for asthma turned out to be increased likelihood of a fatal attack.

When this information first became public, 25 percent of Advair prescriptions were being written as first-line therapies for patients with asthma, despite a black-box warning that had already been placed in the drug's insert to warn of the potential for this paradoxical side effect. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) had already recommended that Advair and other salmeterol-containing drugs should only be prescribed if a long-acting steroid inhaler didn't do the job.

In July 2006, a new review of 19 studies on LABAs concluded that these drugs do indeed increase incidence of severe asthma attacks and asthma-related deaths. The authors of that review suggest that LABAs be removed from the market. Those who would rather not see this happen argue that the risks of LABAs aren't as great as these studies suggest and that they will only worsen symptoms in certain asthmatics. Of course, these pro-LABA factions don't have a clue as to which asthmatics those might be, and they have no way of predicting which asthma patients will fare better or worse on the drug, aside from evidence that African-Americans are at higher risk of ill effects with LABAs.

Perhaps the risks of LABAs would be worth taking if no other drugs could meet the need to keep asthmatics' airways open. The real story is that the best, safest drugs for this purpose are inhaled corticosteroids, which lost their patent protection a long, long time ago and can be had for a fraction of the cost of LABAs. If you or someone you care about has asthma that requires daily drug therapy, be sure to go with an inhaled corticosteroid alone if at all possible.

Optimal nutrition can really help with asthma: plenty of omega-3 fats from fish oil; avoidance of sugars, hydrogenated oils, and polyunsaturated vegetable oils; full spectrum of antioxidants; and a good, solid multivitamin/mineral. Magnesium supplements can help keep airways relaxed; vitamin C and MSM help reduce allergic reactions. Pay close attention to what in your diet might make you wheezy; wine is a common culprit because of the sulfites it contains. Get daily exercise if you can. Keep your indoor environment as dust- and dander-free as possible, particularly your bedroom. Don't, under any circumstances, let asthma symptoms go untreated! Escalation to a severe attack can happen without warning, and long-term, untreated asthma can lead to permanent lung damage.
