Are You Testing Nothing?
by Sam Simetra

Certainly you're well aware of the value of testing sales letter to make them more profitable.  And by now you should be aware of many tools like Glyphius that can be used to write better copy based on comparison with known profitable ads.  But what about testing nothing?

It turns out that nothing actually does increase conversion ratios more than you might think.  You might be wondering what the heck I'm talking about so let me explain.  Nothing doesn't mean a blank page with an order link.  What I mean is using nothing as one of your testing variables except for the order link of course.  You need an order link to get the all important order.

So after you've crafted two high scoring product description paragraphs with Glyphius, make the third variable nothing.  That means a blank paragraph.  You may be surprised at how often nothing will outperform the high-scoring copy you spent an hour tweaking and perfecting.

Is nothing guaranteed to increase your profits?  No.  But you'll probably be surprised to see how often nothing outperforms something in your sales letters.  I was surprised myself but it happens often enough that I know include nothing in all my tests.

You can test any variable in your sales letter.  In some instances, a sales letter with no headline produces more sales than if I had a headline.  You can also test the product description, the call to action, the guarantee, and any other variable in your sales letter.  If nothing converts better than something you may have discovered a piece of copy that was actually talking the prospect out of buying.

Grandchildren
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

An elderly, wealthy woman in Florida was boring fellow beachcombers as she bragged on and on about her two remarkable grandchildren.

Unable to stand it any longer, a fellow sunbather interrupted her.

"Tell me, how old are your grandsons?"

The grandmother gave a grateful smile and replied, "The doctor is four and the lawyer is six..."

A friend asked a gentleman why he never married?

Replied the gentleman, "Well, I guess I just never met the right woman... I guess I've been looking for the perfect girl."

"Oh, come on now," said the friend, "Surely you have met at least one girl that you wanted to marry."

"Yes, there was a girl... once. I guess she was the one perfect girl; the only perfect girl I really ever met. She was just the right everything... I really mean that she was the perfect girl for me."

"Well, why didn't you marry her," asked the friend.

"She was looking for the perfect man."

Traveling through New England, a motorist stopped for gas in a tiny village. "What's this place called?" he asked the station attendant.

"All depends," the native drawled. "Do you mean by them that has to live in this dad-blamed, moth-eaten, dust-covered dump, or by them that's merely enjoying its quaint and picturesque rustic charms for a short spell."

A guy was typing away at his home computer, when his six- year old daughter sneaked up behind him.

Suddenly, she turned and ran into the kitchen, squealing to the rest of the family, "I know Daddy's password! I know Daddy's password!"

"What is it?" her sisters asked eagerly.

Proudly she replied, "Asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk, asterisk!"

Health Tip of the Week
by Dr. Earl Mindell

The Latest on Breastfeeding

Women who are in the thick of their childbearing years, take note: a study recently found that babies who are breast-fed for six months or longer have better mental health in childhood than babies breast-fed for less than six months. Australian researchers followed the development of 2,500 children for 16 years, administering a standard test of mental health at ages six, eight, and ten.

Confounding factors such as socioeconomic status, education, family functioning, and family happiness were factored into the statistical analysis. They found that children who were not breast-fed up to or past six months of age were at 52 percent higher risk of mental problems, including delinquent and antisocial behavior, aggression, depression, and withdrawal. Please, breastfeed for at least six months, and encourage others who are in the position to do so to do the same!
